Burgers' Zoo free-ranging species in Burgers Bush, Desert and Mangrove

Is this including the common house geckos in the bush, and the white-throated geckos in the mangrove?

Crap, I forgot about those

Correction: I once managed to see the three main reptiles in Bush in one day

I actually haven't seen the anolises (Anoli?) In Mangrove at all

According to Burgers' zoo, the white-winged wood ducks are slowly coming out of their capybara comfort zone and can now also be seen in the rice paddy

Madagascar crested ibises are getting out more and more, you can now also find them around path 22b and between the otter enclosure and the jeep (Using the guide from page 6)

On my visit yesterday I also saw the crested quail doves multiple times, mainly around paths 6, 8 and 9

Has there been any sightings of the Eastern superb fruit dove?

It's the only bird that doesn't have sightings on this thread

Recently I have noticed the Turkey Vultures hanging from time-to-time also near the peccary/cave entrance. They seem to have a new flight route? Not sure why but nice to see a change

I did see one flying from there to the village, but I didn't think much of it

I know it's not exactly important, but I updated the wikipedia articles for Burgers' Bush, Desert and Mangrove. They were very outdated about the free-roamers and had some incorrect places for enclosures (Some examples: the birds in general were pretty outdated, even older than the page 1 list. It stated that the Bush also held deer and large cats, as well as saying that the two aviaries in Desert were in the tunnel between Bush and Desert)

Is it really true that there used to be Blue-winged teals in Desert? If yes, does anyone have any pictures? Because it seems very odd to me

I've been there 30-40 times and never seen anything like a duck in the Desert.
It's not mentioned in any of the zoo books, flyers or guides that I have on this zoo.

However, there's this fascinating footage (10) Watch | Facebook which proves that I was wrong or inattentive.

Yep, there were two Blue-winged Teal in the Desert when I was last at the zoo in 2018. They were hanging out on the little pond near the restaurant terrace.

Those have already been gone again I believe. Have not seen them in a while

According to ZTL they have been there since 2018 and in 2020 they were already gone. I can remember that I saw a sign of them in 2019, but haven’t seen them.

I've seen the teals at least once, not sure when that was exactly but 2019 seems plausible.

So I asked a keeper about this and apparently they are no longer kept, so that explains it.

He also said that the Mousebirds are declining (they now only have seven) and can almost exclusively be found near path 25a.

The male painted buntings in desert finally have their colours! (At first they all had the same colours as the females) I counted at least four of them

The last Chaco chacalaca in Bush has died, according to a keeper. They also said that they're planning on a huge change in the Bush collection (they mentioned the Nicobar pigeons, Victoria crowned pigeons and Red-rumped caciques will be leaving, as well as some others).

They're also looking for new female screaming pihas, as the last female is getting quire old.

The Iguana was also out and about, surprisingly. Normally the iguana is hiding away during the winter, but multiple people told me they had seen him. I saw him too later in the day.

People seem to be conflicted about the caiman coming back to Bush, as some people say it would be coming back very soon. And others say they don't think it'll come back at all (I assume they'll be back soon though, as a keeper later confirmed it)

The Mexican house finch in Desert is getting more visible recently, they can be found quite reliably around the tree at the right side of the rock path.

I also finally saw the turquoise tanager, at path 25A

Because Burgers' zoo is open until 18:00, you can walk around the bush after dark. You can see a lot of bats around path 6 and you can hear the whistling frogs (especially around the lower parts of the Bush)

I've spoken to a keeper asking about where you can best find the orange-fronted fruit doves (one of three birds I still need), and she said that they're rarely seen (especially in the colder months), but if they're seen, it's always above the Bush entrance

She also mentioned that the golden-fronted leafbird is actually a little more visible than usual (though still very hard to find) and can be seen above the entrance to the Desert tunnel

Either Burgers' zoo has decided to start closing at 17:00 since last week or I've been accidentally staying an hour past closing time. Either way, the park closes too early for bats or frogs

Every year when the clock changes, the zoo also closes an hour early. This has been for many years and is mentioned on signage.

However the orange-fronted pigeons had a nest near the hangingbridge on the adventure route last year. So likely to spot them there aswell.

Golden-fronted Leafbird has many sightings aswell near the main-entrance of the Bush restaurant (feedingtray)

Interesting, didn't know this since the thread said earlier that your only chance was at the bird watching platform. Any other sighting chances that should be updated?
