Fresno Chaffee Zoo Fresno Chaffee Zoo 2018

The zoo has posted its 2017 annual report. Contained within it are the plans for the new asian exhibit. Construction is supposed to begin in 2019, with completion by late 2020.

The species list from the plans are indian rhinoceros, sumatran orangutan, malayan tiger, sloth bear, flying fox hornbill, and "song birds."

I'm so excited!!! :D:D however I am disappointed that there current Indian Rhinos will not get any renovation, expansion or new exhibit. But other then that this should be a great exhibit considering how Sea Lion Cove and African Adventure turned out. I'm also glad there warthogs are coming to African Adventure. There exhibit there in now looks horrible.

Wilderness Falls, a new Children's Play Area, opened on May 4th, and judging from the short video below (1 minute, 31 seconds) it looks like a cool place for young kids to hang out. Director Scott Barton has been quoted in several articles as saying that Fresno Chaffee Zoo experiences a drop in attendance during the summer months due to the heat, and so this new play area has a waterpark element included.

On the link below, there is a nice little review of Wilderness Falls and a single photo that shows the entire area. There is a playground section, a sandbox, a stream and waterfall, plus it is all tastefully designed with a National Park theme. Wilderness Falls is certainly nothing like Omaha's grandiose, 5-acre Children's Zoo, but it appears to be yet another great addition to a rapidly improving zoo and I personally really like the look of it.

The new area is directly next to Dino Dig, according to the zoo's map:

Addax calf born Monday morning! She is already viewable on the savanna.
I was at the zoo yesterday and the keeper said that although the facebook pictures showed the baby addax out on exhibit, the calf is not actually out on the savanna yet. It was born on exhibit and they weren't able to get it to come in for a couple of days.

There is, however, a young greater kudu that recently got put on exhibit.

How is the warthog exhibit coming along?

Do they still have the middle of the zoo by the bird of prey aviaries ripped up? When I was there in September it looked like they were getting ready to start heavy duty work on the new Asia zone. It looked like they had ripped up all of the exhibits behind the Andean condor exhibit where the duikers, Burmese tortoise, and waterfowl used to be.
