I posted this in a different thread but I’m putting it here to make it more consistent:
-Fresno is developing a new master plan with its director. It’s looking like African River is going to be on hold or canceled, but nothing official has come out yet. The next phase is looking like either a new zoo entrance to the north between sea lions and Africa demolishing a bunch of outdated exhibits, or a South American section to the south of kingdoms of Asia. There is a purpose planning group formed a couple months ago that is made up of staff of all levels and departments that is working on the plan.
-Kingdoms of Asia is still planning on being opened in late 2022, possibly January 2023. There is a possibility of a soft open of some exhibits this spring. (Komodo, Orangutan, Hornbill).

I’m honestly hoping they do the South American Section for their next phase. If it’s anything like African Adventure (which I personally thought turned out good btw) then they should do that.

If the current plans stay correct, they will have access to both their current exhibit and the new one via a chute being built between the 2 exhibits. The new exhibit is the old elephant/rhino enclosure. They are going to make significant changes to have it match the theming of the rest of the area and general fixes as well, basically gutting everything but the structure itself.
 
@Adventuredl I know a lot of people on zoochat aren’t always as excited about an Asian themed exhibit as much because usually it’s themed constantly after a temple ruin taken over by animals. BUT I will say I have high hopes for this one.

They have some animals like False Gharials they are exhibiting in their expansion. I’m also excited about seeing that Sloth Bear/Asian Small Clawed Otter mixed species exhibit in particular. It’s cool they’re also incorporating their orangutans and siamangs for their Kingdoms of Asia exhibit. My point is is that I’m very excited to see this expansion once completed.

Does the zoo have any recent updates construction-wise? In the sense of any significant structures taking shape and nearing completion (Bonner Station, the tiger holding building, the temple theming, etc.) And if so, are there any pictures?

From elephants to rhinos to babirusas along with presumably Malayan tapir and muntjac! I'm very excited to see how all this turns out!
 
I was recently at Fresno Chaffee Zoo recently, and I have to say, they've already made a mistake regarding the bird species featured in their "Songbird Aviary" as a part of Kingdoms of Asia. If the promotional signage is to be believed, they'll be adding one species that isn't even native to the Asia - the golden white-eye (Cleptornis marchei); the golden white-eye is native to the Mariana Islands, far off from Asia. Every other species they posted (and currently have) are native to Southeast Asia.

Since I'm a bonafide "bird nerd", I will post my bird roster for Fresno Chaffee in another post.

I’m pretty sure all zoos make a public announcement for when their new exhibits are going to open :p

Looking forward to the opening of this exhibit, it will be an excellent addition to an already pretty nice zoo. It sounds like they have a pretty nice lineup of species for it and like others I’m excited to see how the sloth bear/ASCO mix will turn out.

Sometimes not very far in advance, however.

Understandable that the opening date was pushed back, but still disappointing; I was hoping to see it over the summer, but with it opening next year now I'm not sure when I'll get the chance.
