Fresno Chaffee Zoo Fresno Chaffee Zoo News 2022

I just found a video that was taken as of 3 weeks ago (as of the time I'm writing this) taking a look inside the construction site of Kingdoms of Asia. Genuinely speaking, color me impressed! The zoo really is going the extra mile with making sure every detail is right - and I reckon the construction delays would provide even more time to develop this exhibit even further detailwise! (Hopefully the zoo establishes the jungle foliage well before opening in March)

What is interesting to note in this video is the people are part of the southeast Asian community and are there to check cultural accuracy. The zoo has been working closely to make sure that recreations are as accurate as possible and has made several changes to the plan on their recommendation.

On November 11th, it was announced that the zoo will acquire a (1.0) prehensile-tailed porcupine from the Los Angeles Zoo in California.

On November 22nd, it was reported that the zoo acquired (1.1) reindeer named Christmas and Peppermint for the duration of the Illuminature display, and are located at the entrance, by the Reptile House.

A couple recent videos/construction updates of Kingdoms of Asia - the first one from Dood with a Cru and the second one from Danny D. Kim. I highlighted these channels before, with the second channel being a direct link to/a leader of the Khmer community the zoo is working with. And judging by these recent updates, this exhibit is a labor of love.

Today I went to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo for the first time ever, and I must say I was SHOCKED by what I saw!

Regarding elephants I did catch breeding with Amahle today and I guess he started breeding with both girls less than a week after his arrival according to keepers. I know keepers don’t always know everything but I do believe that given Mabu was literally mating with Amahle. Apparently yesterday Mabu knocked down a live tree and the ladies were very impressed and excited he did that.

the cheetahs were really active today and I saw them walking around, scent marking. Lions were roaring like crazy when I got there this morning. Don’t know if this was previously reported or not but the zoo only has 1 meerkat. Apparently they’re trying artificial insemination with their female African Lioness Zamaya I believe is her name and I did find that promising anyway. Apparently the zoo also has a new male Kodu for breeding but he didn’t come out today for whatever reason.

Something interesting I found for kingdoms of Asia. The Asian Small Clawed Otters and the Sloth Bears the zoo saids if they don’t get along they somehow are designing both species habitats in that they can be separated but it won’t look like they are somehow.

regarding future plans the zoo is working on a new entrance next after Kingdoms of Asia and I did find out other things lately but I can’t really say cause it’s not definitive yet and I don’t want to get peoples hopes up. However I seriously think Fresno will become a world class institution not that it already isn’t but I really think they have huge potential to be one of the best zoos in the country. I personally found it to be the best zoo I have ever been too and I’m really excited to go back there in 2023.
