So is Mabu staying at Fresno even with once the calves are born?
Anyone have any information on what is in store for bull Mabu going forward?
(his business being done, I would expect him to move to another Californian zoo ...)

Anyone with some expert knowledge?

A few updates from my visit yesterday May 17, 2024:

- Two new bird species have been put on exhibit at the Tropical Bird House (between flamingos and Stingray Bay): the Hooded Pita and the Chestnut Backed Thrush. I'm not sure the quantities or sexes for either species. I counted at least 2 Thrush and 1 Pita, but that's by no means an official count. I was told these birds will eventually be transferred to the Asian Songbird Aviary in Kingdoms of Asia.

- The Conservation Action Center for the Blunt Nosed Leopard Lizard (Gambelia sila) seems to be fully finished. I'll upload pictures to the media gallery soon.

- The new mixed species exhibit in Kingdoms of Asia (former Indian rhino and longtime Asian Elephant yard) appears quite close to completion. The pond was filled/being filled and most if not all landscaping seemed to be completed. I also was able to see one Malayan Tapir in their former yard - though i could only view it from afar though the chain link that is blocking that path. I assume it is quarantining there until the new exhibit is ready. I can also upload pictures of these if there is interest.

I would be interested in seeing the pictures please!

Hello everyone. I went to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo today and I uploaded some new photos myself of the new Malayan Tapir/Baribusa exhibit. I also heard it’s now gonna have Reeves Munjac too but I got mixed massaging from the zoo about that so will see. Animals could potentially be going on exhibit there next week…? Anyways, other updates.

1.) Mabu was the only African Elephant on exhibit today. Nolwazi and Amahle were not.

2.) there was only 1 red wolf on exhibit and the other red wolf was not on exhibit during my visit to the zoo.

3.) there were no wildebeest on exhibit in African Adventure today. All the other animals were on exhibit in the main savanna.

4.) there were no animals on exhibit in the false gharial exhibit.

5.) the Asian Small Clawed Otters were not on exhibit today.

Today’s visit was quick but tomorrow I’ll have more time to check and look around more. I’ll post again if I get anymore additional updates.

Ok, so more Fresno Chaffee Zoo updates. I went back today and I did get more information about other things happening.

1.) Reeves Muntjac ARE officially coming to Kingdoms of Asia. That was clarified to me today. They will be with the Malayan Tapir and Baribusa.

2.) the Fresno Chaffee Zoo has NOT completed a new den space for Malayan tiger cubs so right now they are NOT breeding till this new addition space is completed so Fresno can house additional Malayan Tigers.

3.) the Asian Small Clawed Otters WERE on exhibit today. For some reason they weren’t yesterday idk why.

4.) all the African elephants WERE on exhibit today. Nolwazi and Amahle both were doing well on today’s visit.

5.) the conservation center for blunt nosed leopard lizard breeding looked good but reflection was poor due to the sun.

6.) I saw the zoo is constructing a new petting zoo/new sloth exhibit and hopefully a new American Alligator exhibit it sounds like is in the works

Otherwise, everything from today’s visit was the same as yesterdays. I’ll try to upload some new additional photos of construction projects around the zoo tonight and other things.
