Ulan the Malayan tapir will move to this zoo at the end of the month to eventually be on exhibit with their male tapir and the babirusas.
Oh yeah, I remember seeing that in a thread about Chaffee's most recent master plan were after kingdoms of Asia the next projects are multi story parking areas, relocating the entrance and the next major animal related exhibit is turning the area from Kingdoms of Asia's exit to around safari cafe into a California themed section according to the 2023 master plan but these things can always be subject to change.More parking could be coming to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo

Well after talking to a zookeeper, I have come to find out that the Male babirusa comes from the woodland park zoo same as Ulan the female tapir, but currently there are no plans to have him breed with their females at the moment, is what I was told. No, as @Smaggledagle observed the LA Zoo sent their lone female babirusa (b. 2014) up to Fresno Zoo.
The Zoo already maintains 2 young females born in 2021. It is quite possible that at some point there will be a recommendation for a male sourced for a new breeding group. I don't know the zoo's ambitions in this nor what the AZA species breeding program has advised.
I really do not know what to make of this ..., it is important to breed the babirusas as early on as possible. NOTA BENE: Females will rapidly lose reproductive output in later years.Well after talking to a zookeeper, I have come to find out that the Male babirusa comes from the woodland park zoo same as Ulan the female tapir, but currently there are no plans to have him breed with their females at the moment, is what I was told.
