Fresno Chaffee Zoo Fresno Chaffee Zoo News 2025

Some zoo updates:

- The condor chick was out today, and there are no longer barriers to the side viewing area.
- The Rainforest Aviary no longer has oropendolas present or signed. On the other hand, I've now seen the Giant Wood Rails out and about in the aviary. There is now also a Military Macaw living with the Blue-fronted Macaws.
- The Fennec Fox signage was removed, but it looks like the habitat may still be occupied...?
- The recent USDA inspection report seems to confirm that the Ring-tailed Lemurs are gone, and their exhibit remains empty and unsigned.
- The Reptile House has seen some reshuffling:
  • Blood Python has been replaced by what appears to be a Utila Island Spiny-tailed Iguana, which was previously on exhibit in the closed tropic house;
  • A previously empty terrarium now appears to hold a Red Diamond Rattlesnake;
  • The Blunt-nosed Leopard Lizard tank now holds an unknown species of uromastyx;
  • Yellow-headed Geckos (never seen) are no longer signed;
  • There is now Blue Spiny Lizard in the big desert lizard tank, and signage for San Esteban Island Chuckwalla (another previously held species) instead of the usual Common Chuckwalla.
  • In addition to all of this, the electronic signage appears to be malfunctioning throughout the building, and the zoo has covered at least a couple screens with plaques and laminated signage sheets. I hope this is a prelude to them removing the e-signage entirely... in the meantime, the new inhabitants are largely unsigned.

Recently I was looking up to see if there was any news about the zoos masterplan and I found this picture on reddit which looks like a updated version of the masterplan which includes an expansion over to where playland is. It looks like there would be two paths from where the aquarium would be and where the tropical rainforest is over to where playland is and I assume it would be a bridge. And some things I've noticed about the area is that Valley farms will move to this area, the planned education building looks like it had been moved this area, along with a carousel, possibly a playground in the dark green area, and I have no idea what is supposed to be in the light green area. The only else I can see that is different is that there are two new enclosures where valley farm is right now and maybe an elevated viewing in the tropical rainforest. I prefer this version compared to the old one because it adds more to the zoo and an actual loop around the whole zoo.

Found another version of the masterplan from October from this document. Some changes made are that playland will turned into an event area, the aquarium is still mentioned in the document but on the picture it shows a renovated reptile house, the California area, now called "California: From the Sierras to the Sea", is bigger with more exhibits, and an added exhibit across from the new Galapagos tortoise exhibit. chaffeezoomasterplan.jpeg
