The current Museum of Science in Miami is being permanently closed this week as the long-gestating, brand-new Museum of Science is going to open in a different location in the summer of 2016. The $300 million project includes the Living Core Aquarium, a 500,000 gallon, three-story complex.

I didn't realize that this was an entirely new facility going up - thought it was a remodel. It looks like an exciting project. Miami can definitely use a high-quality aquarium as the Seaquarium seems like a tired relic from the 1950s.

The new museum is a universe of difference from the old one in Coconut Grove. The deep sea tank will be unique.

For any who do not know our system: once the museum receives its certificate of occupancy at the end of the year the building is turned over to the owners. At that point all of the exhibits get installed (no small endeavor). So, opening would be months after that.
