Dallas Zoo Future Dallas zoo developments!

While at the zoo today, I went into the vulture awareness book sale (which took place in a conference room). In the corner of the room, I couldn't help but notice a model of an entire South American section! Exhibits in the section include:
-Tapir/spider monkey
-Jaguar
-Peccary island
-numerous macaw stands
-caiman/crocodiles
-giant anteaters
-guanacos/llamas
-Sea lions (Pantegonian).
there may have been other species on the model, but I only had a moment to glance... I'm assuming if true this section was real, it would be on the recently closed hill.

Other exhibits/ additions I have hear rumors about include:
-The large mammal building being converted to a conservation/education center
-An expansion of the current Asian section, with asian giants (Indian rhinos & tapirs)
-Komodo dragon enclosure
-Primate place to be switched to only Asian species
-Orangutans or sloth bears to be placed in the other side of the tiger enclosure that has sat empty since 1999

-White rhinos added to the monorail
-Hippos added to the monorail
-Pygmy hippos added to the WOA trail
-Colobus monkey enclosure added to WOA trail
-Also, I have suspicions about animals such as Koalas/wombats/quolls being added to the small Australian section.

Do any of you have any information?

seems like a certain idea by a certain forum member on this site who works at the Dallas Zoo might have been green lit . . .

Dallas is already one of my favorite zoos and perhaps the best in the Southwest. If all of this comes to fruition, IMO it will easily be one of the top five in the U.S.

(I know some of you will disagree, but I was just there last week and that is honestly how I feel).

What do you like so much about Dallas Arizona Docent? Do they have a certain exhibit you really like, or are they just a good zoo overall?

The zoo is made up of two sides, separated from each other by a long pedestrian underpass. The newer (south) side, Wilds Of Africa, has the most consistently good exhibits I have seen anywhere. Not a single sore spot anywhere in all that acreage. World class gorilla exhibit (with indoor and outdoor viewing), fantastic natural African forest trail, truly unique monorail (showcasing all the habitats of Africa, not just savanna) and of course Giants Of The Savanna (which needs no explanation). The older (north) side has some outdated exhibits, but has been much improved since my first visit in 1999 and is still being improved. Outstanding tiger and asian otter exhibits, good childrens zoo and reptile house.

So to answer your question, it is actually both - good overall and a certain great exhibit (Giants Of The Savanna).

We too feel the same way about Dallas as there are certainly some incredible things going on at an already very good zoo.Other than maybe Columbus we can't think of a zoo growing in such a way as Dallas.

Absolutely none of this has happened yet. Only the macaw stands.
