I will be taking a data management course this coming September and as apart of the course the major assignment is an essay on data(s). I would like to do an animal - conservation related topics. The topics need to have a tone of data that is accessible. So far I have 3 ideas; the decline of various amphibian species, the ongoing ivory poaching in Africa, and the declining numbers of gorilla species.

If anyone has any links to these topics or even could suggest other ones, it would help me narrow down a search for the best topic.

Thanks,

If you want to do amphibs then I suggest you contact K Zeppel, at Amphibian Ark, they should be able to provide you with all the information you will need :)

It can be about anything, I would like to keep it in the range of animals though. Thanks Meg-T i'll keep it in mind.

should whales and dolphins be kept in captvity (i know you all could probably see this coming)

If you could get access to a full studbook for a single species, you could do all sorts of statistical analysis on the data contained.

I think I am leaning more towards the Amphibians, as I am doing a co-op in September as well at the Toronto Zoo with them and reptiles.

Do you need any actual data to work with or are you just writing about how stats have been used by others?

Yes I need stats for this essay. If anyone has any links please post related to any topic.

I have contacted a few people to get reasorces etc. Are there any well written books or documents out there that could be recommended? (I have said well written cause this is a reaserch paper) I am having difficulty contacting Amphibian Ark, can't find an email?

Thats not to much info nor too detailed exactly what I am looking for but I couldn't find anything in there about ampibians.

No, no amphibians, sorry, but thought I'd post it up in case as I came across it (quite interesting article in its own right actually).
