What's the plan for London's Sumatran tigers? Are the current 1:1 going to retire without breeding and once they die a new pair bought in? Or will London move one on and try to breed the other with a new mate? I believe they are/were going to try and build them a new exibit what's happening with this?

I don't think there is much hope in London's Sumatran tigers. They did swop females with Dudley in 08, but Lumpar and Sarah where incompatable and where fighting alot which led to her being moved to the Lion Terraces, and then back to Dudley, and Raika moved back to London. Once London's tiger's die I think they will hold back on acquiring a new pair until the new enclosure has been built.

Apparently plans needed to be submitted within 2 years of the enclosure investigation (2008) There are some articles on the internet that go into more detail, but it won't let me paste the link here!

After the Clore (Well the former Clore after it is re-developed it is being re-branded! you heard it here first!) It could be a Exciting year for both the Big cats at London Zoo well it will most definitely be exciting before 2012 its exciting news.

It's advertised on the website as "Coming soon: Rainforest Life". How dull; it will always be the Clore to me.

The re-branded does seem like a big waste to me as the Clore is know by nearly all and it will be very hard to get people to refer to it by the different name. However I think the new night zone will be what they are really tring to shout about I do hope it is on par with the night zone in Berlin Zoo as the one there is fantastic.

There were plans for both big cat exhibits to be redone, however this has been put on hold for the foreseeable future. Its not even the issue of the Clore renovation works, its simply a case of the zoo not having the money. The past financial year has led to a few job cuts in recent months, and the budget is stretched enough as it is without doing what they sadly regard as 'unnecessary work' particularly when they've had such little success due to Lumpar's foul attitude towards anything female.

They are doing some replanting in the lion exhibit, and have done some mural work to try and spruce up that dire 60's concrete...

This is a great pity but perhaps not unexpected news...

I still wish they would fill in the watermoat in the Lion enclosure though and have a glass viewing window instead- along the lines of the Okapi enclosure. It would almost double the space for the Lions and modernise the appearance of the enclosure without the cost of building a new one.
