The Facebook post also mentions that the repair works on the snow-damaged flamingo aviary are in their final phase and expected to be completed soon. The Limburg farm area is also being renovated and construction of the new Pampa area has begun.

Due to the extreme rainfall and flooding afflicting large parts of Belgium and the Netherlands GaiaZoo has now also closed immediately, and will remain closed at least tomorrow.

I really hope there won't be too much damage and all the animals in all the affected zoos will remain safe and healthy. I also hope this will be over soon and there won't be any more of this. Because with the lockdowns and in the case of GaiaZoo also previous extreme weather events, the zoos have had more than enough bad stuff to deal with this year already, and really don't need any more.

An update by the park. The damage, given the circumstances, luckily turns out to not be too bad. Park staff worked hard to make the park accessible to visitors again and succeeded in doing so, aside from the marshy area near the bush dog exhibit. The zoo will reopen tomorrow.

The first two Vicuñas have arrived at GaiaZOO. They are two females, one from Germany and one from Poland. Later a female from France and a male from Denmark will arrive. When the four animals have been introduced to each other, they are going to share the enclosure with the South American tapir and Lesser rhea.

Does anyone know what happened with the Australian aviary? I've never actually been in GaiaZoo and I'm planning on going soon. I've seen pictures of an Australian aviary, but ZTL no longer lists the Australian birds like Masked lapwing or Zebra finch

I seem to remember that aviary did not reopen after the first Covid-19 closure, probably because the relatively narrow entrance and exit corridor and doors don't really allow for social distancing.
After some research I found out the Australian birds have moved to other zoos and the aviary now houses sun conures (now an endangered species, and previously housed in an aviary near the bridge to the Puna aviary):

An update on the situation of the gorilla troop after Makula's passing:
- Heart failure was, indeed, the cause of death of the silverback.
- The EEP coordinator is looking for a potential replacement, mostly looking at demeanor and males who are unrelated to the current females. Due to permits and the many parties involved, it will still be a couple months until a new silverback is brought to Kerkrade.
- The group is doing okay at the moment. Castrated male Loango, Makula's younger brother, occasionally tries to take control of the group. The females, however, know how to stand their ground.
Are there perhaps any regulars that could help me with something?
I'm making a guide with all aviary species and I've been able to place almost all species through ZTL and the ZooChat gallery. But there's still a few species I'm missing:
Common redshank (Tringa totanus) (Though I assume Taiga aviary)
European turtle dove (Streptopelia turtur turtur)
Glossy ibis (Plegadis falcinellus)
Scaly-sided merganser (Mergus squamatus)
Could anyone help me by telling me in which aviary they are? (Puna, Congo, Flamingo, Taiga, Vreemde vogels)

I'm not a regular (I have never even visited Gaia), but I can help you with this.
Common redshank, European turtle dove and Scaly-sided merganser are in the Taiga aviary. The Glossy ibis is in the Vreemde vogels aviary.
Last winter the Taiga aviary was severely damaged by heavy snowfall. As far as I know they are still rebuilding that aviary. So most of the birds in that aviary are temporarly kept in other zoos.
