A Spanish Dolphin trainer who was supposed to take a position at Georgia Aquarium has been found dead from an apparent suicide.

I know the encounter program has been suspended, I wonder what the holdup is for Maris. The suspense is killing me.

The Aquarium has received a grant from the UPS foundation. The Aquarium plans to use it to replant coral in the Florida Keys.

Finally! And the Calf seems to be healthier this time. I was starting to think she would never deliver.

This is significant because we may well have a surviving Beluga calf born to parents who were themselves born in a zoological setting

The Baby Beluga is not growing as fast as they would like. She is nursing well and also receiving supplemental nutrition. Hopefully this is just a blip and she turns a corner soon.

Beluga Calf died. Lol, this place needs to get out of the Beluga program. It's ok to admit defeat, but not continually losing calves in this day and age with social media.

Maris has died suddenly. She showed no signs of illness prior to her death. They don't know what happened yet.

More on Maris's death. She was apparently fine; she even had an abdominal ultrasound that morning showing everything was normal when all of a sudden she started going downhill and just died.

Why would she have an ultrasound scan if there were no concerns of any kind? I think there's more to it than this.

It might be that they perform ultrasound exams as part of their regular veterinary exams. She was also pregnant earlier this year, maybe it was related to that.

But it would be a huge coincidence if they had a regular medical exam on the same day that she died of other causes.

Ultrasound exams are fairly routine in cetaceans. Often just to desensitize for needed medical procedures.
I hope the necropsy provides some answers.

Thanks. That strikes me as somewhat surprising given the sensitivity I'd expect to high sound frequencies.
