Horseshoe Crabs are living Fossils that existed even before the Dinosaurs.
This makes them a important Species for Zoos and Aquariums.
I've seen them mixed with seahorses at Sea Life Minnesota.

Giant Cockroaches are found in many Zoos. Sometimes they are used as Feeder Insects.
Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary used to mix them with tarantulas.
 
You sure you didn't just see them getting fed
Yes. The cockroaches had an area of the enclosure they could retreat to where they bred. The tarantula was fed using the cockroaches, and they bred so fast that there was no reason to stop the occasional cockroach wandering in to the tarantula's den and getting eaten. This mix was removed, though.

@birdsandbats That is a very interesting Mixed Enclosure. Did the Tarantula only eat Cockroaches or was she fed with Other Insects.
