German Zoo Worlds illustrated Zoo Reviews

Zoo/Aquarium 4. Berlin Tierpark Friedrichsfelde part 4

On my Visit in 2016 the Primate House was oldfashioned but recently the House was renovated and espacialy the Indoor Enclosures are now much better looking. The House is Home to the rare Coquerels Sifaka, red backed bearded Saki, red Howler Monkey aswell as Red bellied Lemur and a breeding Group of Gelada Baboon. They all live in spacious Outdoor Enclosures or in the Gelada Example on Islands which are connected to the Primate House. Other Primates at the Zoo live on Islands through out the Tierpark such as ring tailed Lemur, Barbary Macaque, Pig tailed Macaque and white handed Gibbon but then there is also a walkthrough Lemur Enclosure just for three Species of ruffed Lemur: Black and white, red ruffed and belted ruffed Lemur. Last but not least near the Exit you can find Chacoan Peccary, Walaroo, ring tailed rock Wallaby, Greater Bustard, the mentioned Deer Section and 2 Enclosures for booth European and wood Bison. This Zoo is very nice with spacious Enclosures and rare Species, this is a Zoo Nerds Paradise and im sure once the Elephant House is open i want to return to Germanys largest Zoo. I can recommend a Visit even when i have not seen the four big new Enclosures by my self and im looking forward to other new Exhibits of this Berlin Giant.

I miss seeing Gayal, gone from the UK and unlikely to return. Even Gaur are being phased out:(

Tripsdrill is not your typical average natives only Wildlifepark they also keep several north american and temperate Asian Animals aswell as a large Collection of excotic Birds of Prey from arround the World. After the Zoos very simple Entrance you are already in the first walkthrough Enclosure for the most common wild Mammal in Zoos the european fallow Deer and also the rare asian Dybowski Deer. The walkthrough Enclosure is very spacious and the Deer have more than enough Space to retreat from Zoo Visitors. The Deer Walkthrough has booth a forested and a more open meadow part. Found in the Deer Walkthrough is a spacious Aviary for Ringed Teal, White Stork and black crowned night Heron. Like in many other Wildlifeparks you can feed Deer and Mouflon with Peletts. After the Deer Walkthrough we see one of the Zoos main Highlights, the Falconry Center. Most of the Storks, Owls and Birds of Prey are kept in small Aviarys but sadly some Birds are tied to little Poles. One large Aviary for Vultures is the Centrepice of the Bird of Prey Area. Notable Species in the Falconry Centre include Black chested buzzard Eagle, White backed Vulture, Rupells Vulture, Mountain Caracara, crested Caracara, Stellers sea Eagle and a female Andean Condor.

Next to the Birds of Prey Aviarys we come to two very nice and naturalistic walkthrough Enclosures. Inside the first walkthrough which is the Turtle Marsh you can find three different Turtles inside a naturalistic and lush series of Ponds. Those Ponds are Home to Red eared and yellowbellied Sliders aswell as the endangered native European Pond Turtle. The second walkthrough is a walkthrough Reeves Muntjac Enclosure and Visitors can feed the small Deer with special Muntjac Peletts. Now we arrive at the Zoos only Restaurant and the Falconry Arena which sits above the Falconry Centres Lawn. Here you can see a Bird of Prey Show with Eagles, Vultures and even a handreared White Stork and the Zoos Condor. Now we enter the next walkthrough Enclosure which was build on a step slope. Inside you can find a huge sepperate Enclosure which can also be used by the Zoos breeding Herd of European Mouflon. While the Mouflon can also walk among the Visitors, the Heck Horse and breeding Group of Yak cannot go in the Visitor part of their huge and step forested and hilly Paddock.

To be continued...

Zoo/Aquarium 5. Tripsdrill Wildlife part 2

Now we reach the Carnivore section of the Zoo. If we go to the left Side first we come back to the Restaurant but we can also see a spacious Enclosure for Eurasian Lynx aswell as two smaller Enclosures for Red Fox and the new Arctic Fox which arrived from Bad Mergentheim. If you take the right side first you arrive at a huge naturalistic Aviary for Bald Eagle. Next to the Eagle Aviary you find a simple Enclosure for Ferret and Racoon and next to them you can find a small pack of Arctic Wolf in a small Paddock which should be larger. The Wolves lived until 2013 with the Zoos european brown Bears but one Wolf was killed by a Brown Bear during a Keeper Talk and they sepperated booth Species and gave them their own Enclosures. The Bears live inside the Centre of the Carnivores circle. Their Enclosure is huge and they have a large Pond to swim in. After the Zoos main Attraction we reach several mid sized Aviarys that are mostly Home to several species of Owls, but you can also find Black Stork and Harris Hawk. Tripsdrill is one of few Zoos that have two sub Species of Wolf and so we can also find a pack of Eurasian gray Wolf inside a nice spacious Enclosure that was enlarged with the old Lynx Enclosure which moved next to the Zoos Foxes. .Next to the Wolves we find a nice and very lush Enclosure for European Wild Cat.

Stil very new is the Enclosure for Eurasian river Otter that was opened in 2018. Their Enclosure is also very nice and the Otters have two Enclosures which they can reach by swimming under the Visitor Boardwalk. After a simple Pond for Runner Duck and Goose we reach the Zoos forested Enclosure for a breeding Group of European wild Boar and next to them we find the Zoos last but largest Enclosure which is a mixed species Enclosure for breeding Herds of booth Red Deer and the impressive Heck Cattle. I think this is a very nice Wildlifepark which does also have some excotics and a large Bird of Prey Collection aswell as many good and naturalistic Enclosures that are Home to a interesting Collection of booth European and temperate Species from arround the World.
