Twycross Zoo Getting Striped Hyenas!

Man its all going on at Twycross. 2 hyenas on the way, a new male gorilla, and another tufted deer baby. Thats one thing Twycros cant be knocked for and thats the breeding of the tufted deer, the first in the Uk let alone the second!

I wonder if they'll source a male of the same subspecies. It would be a real shame if they acquired generic or other subspecific animals to build this group.

why dont you just ask keepers then if you want to know anything instead of talking rubbish

Where have people talked rubbish? It's just friendly discussion, is all, among zoo fans.

Worse things happen at sea, y'know.

Sad to say - I was at Twycross Zoo today (26 Aug 2012) and saw the two hyenas fighting each other quite seriously. The keepers were rushing about with fire extinguishers and brooms I guess to try and separate them. We didn't stay to see the outcome but we saw keepers running with extinguishers about 10 mins after we had passed the Hyenas. They may of course have been playing but it looked real to me. Do hyenas fight to the death or does one submit and the other become dominant ? I am guessing that these were the two females mentioned in the beginning of this article. I am hoping that they were separated in time.

Hyenas still separated today but in adjoining cages asleep and could presumably see each other, so hopefully whatever row they were having has cooled off now.
