InNov 2007 a male giraffe was born at Auckland zoo and since then there has been nothing in the media or on the zoos website about him. On ISIS it notes that there have been two births but there is only one male, which would b ethe breeding male, Zabulu. I suspect that the calf has died. Xan anyone confirm this for me please.

What is a biraffe? A combo of banteng and giraffe in a zoo? An unknown coupling? Perhaps a bachelor giraffe on the open plains? Haha

My spelling is getting as bad as zooboy but at least the grammer is ok:D

Jay , I have just sent an email to my contact at Auckland Zoo , asking for an official statement straight from the horses mouth .
She is reliable and sends me responses as soon as she gets the correct information .
I will post the reply on this forum as soon as I get it .

thanks Nigel
much appreciated. I was going to sen dan email to the zoo next but you have better contacts!

Dead giraffe

In one of the episodes of The Zoo that I was watching (series 9?) a baby giraffe died. It was the first born calf to Rukia and I think she kicked it and it never really recovered. They ended up euthanising him after trying to get him back on his feet - he could be the one that is being referred to?

yes I'm pretty sure that that is the one. Thank you. I haven't seen that series of the Zoo yet.

The official word !!! ( Good news ! )

Hi Nigel,

Abbey asked me to clarify our giraffe status regarding breeding.
We have had two recent births. A female named Ntombi and a male named Forrest. Both are doing very well.

Cheers
Michael

I suggest if anyone has further detailed requests that they email Michael direct ( and post answers on the forum ) ?

Thanks Nigel That's great news. After looking through ISIS again I realised that I had made a mistake and forgot that the breeding male is a pure Rothschilds, hence ISIS lists two males, one Roths and one hybrid. Thanks for finding out for me Nigel, glad to get a name to him s well.
