Hello,

On a Dutch tv-serie about Burgers' Zoo Arnhem, we saw that they put 2 female Baringo giraffes on transport to England. Does anybody know in wich zoo they are?

Many Thanks

Any idea of when the series was filmed as at the moment i cannot think of 2 females that have arrived from Burgers into this country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Knowing ... that is the Emperor!
A hard guess ... that is the Beggar (ME)!

Top contenders are:
1) Belfast Zoo
2) Chester Zoo

Bottom two possibles are:
3) Lympne
4) Dudley (they would require a breeding male).

My hardest guess ... no. 1!

Oops, and I failed (LOTS OF LAUGHTER ... MY OWN)

K.B. :D

The 2 females have arrived at Flamingoland in Yorkshire, and have been joined by a young bull from Woburn

here is the video posted yesterday.

Well i hope they keep the ****** Hybrids away from them we don`t need any more in this country as we have enogh Zoo still breeding them.On a positive note good that another collection is geting a pure group of Giraffes in the U.K.Also explains why Kizmet went to Marwell.

BBC NEWS | England | Zoo's giraffes move to new homes

It says the existing giraffes Penny and Charlotte (i presume they're the hybrids you are referring to?) have been moved "to the other side of the park".

George (from Woburn), Joyce and Edith (the dutch giraffes I think) are in the normal giraffe house.

They are indeed about time this place started stepping up to the mark as it could be one of the U.K`s best Zoos if they tried to be,great that they are actually going to have a pure group of Giraffes think i must pay the place another visit as its been a couple of years since my last.

One thing that I don't know is , when did they arrived at Flamingoland? The tv-serie is filmed in 1 year , so i don't have a date of arrive.

Reviving a thread here: anyone any idea what happened to giraffe Edith. Lotsa mention of Joyce (with 2 births since 2009), however nothing on Edith. Is she still at Malton - Flamingoland or gone elsewhere.

I believe that a female died there a few years back, it was one of the females in the Rothschilds group, so that may make sense. I think since then though that they have received two more females from Europe (maybe even one more from Burgers). At least one of these has bred, as there are currently two baby giraffe there.

Also, on another note on a recent visit I was told they are getting Indian rhino this summer, not sure where from though.

Thanx, for filling in a little bit. I suspect the female Edith died in 2009/2010 (any more accurate date would still be welcome). They did receive 2 more females in 2011 (1 each from Arnhem and Kronberg).

Receiving Indian rhino? Certainly, interesting. I know of one other collection in the BI/Ireland that will eventually acquire them. Edinburgh having managed bulls only for some time now may now be in a position to take on a breeding pair. Various other zoos in Europe have surplus and need individuals to be moved on either this or next year (1. 3) plus Rotterdam will go out of them alltogether (allthough word is these will travel on the Continent). So, it might be a realistic option.
