hi, can anyone tell me the best place to see giraffes in the uk, as close up as possible. i saw a pogram on telly where they were feeding them over the fence and i thought this was the cotsworlds but it doesnt say anything on there site.
hope you can help, thanks for looking

Many places feed their giraffes up close. Even though I dont want to say this, I will anyway as I havent seen it done at any other zoo in the UK. I would reccomend South Lakes Wild Animal Park. They let you feed and even touch the giraffes during one of the many feeding displays.

thanks forthe advice, just had a look at colchester as its the nearest to me, however they do state on there site that the park is naturaly hilly and my wife eill need to be wheeled around in her chair as she can only walk short distances, lakeside sounds ideal, just a very long way away.

Colchester do a public Giraffe feed (search youtube for 'Colchester Giraffe' or suchlike).

Marwell have the high viewing platforms - I doubt if there's wheelchair access, I can't remember to be honest).

Yes Colchester Zoo do a free hand feed session. If you go for this option, try to arrive early to one of the feeds throughout the day because it can get very busy during this time. There are many giraffe feeds through the day so you arent likley to miss it. The display times are as follows: 12.30, 14.30 and 16.00.

I dont think the high viewing platforms are for regular use, though.

Yeah, the giraffes use the valley as a paddock now, so the viewing platform has kinda lost it's purpose.

But if you catch them in the house it's an excellent viewing place, and if it's quiet the young ones like Tia and Kwame will often come up and meet you up close. :)

Ah, I do apologise. I thought you meant the platform on the inside, which I think is only for private talks. The outside one is wheelchair accessible, I'd imagine, but yeah, not really all that great for spotting Giraffe's anymore, as they're usually elsewhere.
