Does anyone know what species of Giraffe they at Twycross? Ive never been too sure. Also, I'm sure Twycross used to have 4 giraffes. Where did they go? Are there any plans for them to get any more?

Keisha is a Reticulated Giraffe, and I think Justin is a Masai Giraffe but can't remember.

There are no plans to get anymore for the time being.

Definitely not Masai. Both are hybrid 'zoo' giraffes as far as I'm aware (the usual, mostly Rothschild/Reticulated mix).

There may be a touch of Masai blood in the female but they are both zoo Hybrids and not pure in any way!

Keisha the female looks like a reticulated although I believe she's a hybrid. They have had a few bulls over the past couple of years as well as at least one more female. Keisha's pregnant so there should be a new calf at Twycross soon. (Another hybrid fantastic!)

The males were..

Cormac - DOB 29/4/87 at Fota - arrived from Chester in August 2003. I don't know what happend to him after that.

Zoolu - born at Paignton on 23/5/03 and moved to Twycross on 19/5/04 sadly he was put to sleep in 2005 due to a hip problem.

Justin was born January 2004 and arrived at Twycross in November 2005 from Africa Alive! in Suffolk. He is the father of Keisha's calf.

I think I'm right in saying Cormac died after sustaining injuries while trying to mount one of the females. He always was a reliable breeding bull at Chester, and it seems wasn't about to accept a gentle retirement after moving!

(I'm sure zoogiraffe will have more details on this!)

Nice, How long has she been pregnant? Any ideas when its due? I know its no good for conservation in some ways as they're not pure, however Giraffes are fantastic animals to watch. I look forward to seeing the calf!

Yep Cormac one of the finest looking Hybrid Giraffes that I`ve ever seen looked more like a Baringo than some of the ones that are pure,as Maguari said he was injured trying to mount Keisha`s mother who`s name escapes me for the moment and because of the injury he had to be put down more or less straight away if my memory serves me correctly.

Also, does anyone know where the Bush dogs at Twycross went. They were great. they were where the pudu's are now. The pudus used to be where the tufted deer are now near the dholes. There are alot of pudus so do they have some males there as they have 4 or 5 i think.

I have no idea when it's due but I remember reading somewhere on here that she was expecting but that was a while ago so not sure what's happend since then.
