Glasgow Zoo (Closed) Glasgow Zoo tiger.

Hiya! I wonder if anyone can help? I recently came across an urban exploration website where some people had taken photos in and around Glasgow Zoo around two years after its closure (I think). A lot of the zoo was sadly already derelict, but whilst there they photographed this tiger who appeared to be still living in the Adimula enclosure. http://www.turbozutek.f2s.com/displayimage.php?album=50&pos=16 Obviously someone was still taking care of the tiger and feeding him/her etc, but I was just curious to find out what happened to this tiger, as subsequent visits/photos show the tiger to be gone. Did he end up being tranferred to another zoo or was he one of the Chipperfield cats? I just thought it was sad seeing the pics and wondered if anyone knew who this tiger was and where he/she ended up. Hope someone can help! Thanks! : )

Hi there,
The photographs that you refer to were "not taken after its closure" the photographs were sometime between the years 2002 and 2002 respectively.

The tigers were indeed owned by Chipperfield and the tigers were sent to Spain.

I can reasure you as I have already previously mentioned in other posts that I was in charge of the big cats, and I can inform you for fact that the photographs that you refer too are not of the Zoo after it had closed but before. It was an old zoo that had serious senior managerial and financial problems however, the animals in my care and the care of my staff and the other keepering staff were indeed of the highest quality. DEFRA, numerous Zoo Inspections and the SSPCA passed the welfare, behaviour and husbandry with flying colours. It was sad to note that certain animal welfare groups poked their big nose into the issue of the zoo and made remarks that were seen as unfounded and highly defamatory, especially against the keepering staff and the way zoos in general work. The ethos behind these groups were and still are to close every zoo down within the UK, sadly Glasgow Zoo had ran out of money, out of time and out of favour.

Hope this helps, if you need further info, please send a personal message to me and I shall respond.

Regards.

Thanks for our reply. I'm new to this forum, so hadn't noticed any previous posts on the subject, sorry! : )

I honestly wasn't insinuating that there was anything amiss with the care of the animals, I was just genuinely curious as to what happened to the tiger, the reason being that the photos were dated May 2005 and I thought the zoo was closed by then, and I thought it was a shame if the park was closed around him, that's all. : )

The rest of the photos added at the same time showed closed exhibits and derelict buildings etc and the captions etc had been written saying that this was after the park had shut. Is this some kind of a hoax (sorry if this has been discussed on the forum before)?

As I said, I really just wondered if he or she had been rehomed, and when I'd been doing a wee nosey online I'd heard Chipperfield's mentioned and just wondered if that's what had happened to him!

Cheers again. : )
