Global Captive Orca Population

Lovely has sustained an injury to her jaw, apparently during the transfer process of Ran to Kobe, it looks as though the tip of her lower jaw has been torn off, not dissimilar to how Nakai was injured a few years back when he was missing a large chunk of his chin.
Wow, sad to hear, hopefully it will heal like Nakai's but Nakai's was brutal for a while.

Usually it's the emotional side of things when it comes to transfer impacts on individual orcas; yet this time we have a physical injury as a result.

The injury occurred due to the whales not being separated by the time the crane came (apparently it was a very short time between deciding the transfer and the crane arriving). When they tried to separate them in the presence of the crane the whales panicked and Ran injured herself.

Here is a video of Lovey’s injury;

I hadn't realised it had damaged her teeth too, you can see that it has exposed the roots of her front teeth but a couple of them are chipped too. It has to have been a collision with something in the pool surely, probably the gate?

The Kamogawa whales have pretty much the best teeth condition of any captive orca so I just hope they know how to care for them in that state (I think teeth flushing is pretty much a daily occurrence at SW but I wonder how familiar the trainers at Kamogawa are with the process). Also hope it doesn't lead to any infections.

Here’s the latest photo of Ran at kobe suma seaworld,I found it on Insta it was sourced from kobe’s website but I can’t find where:( So its a screenshot

It's in the show schedule section on the site, just click on one of the days on the calendar.

No pics of Stella, just that one of Ran.

It's good to see she isn't injured too, assuming its not photoshopped.

Chimelong is doing waterworks as confirmed by this Instagram post; https://www.instagram.com/stories/mermaid_fight/3378690995552373920/
It is currently only in the VIP show but they plan to make it part of their Main show. This new information makes there be 2 known facilities that perform waterworks(possibly 3 if Kobe Suma will do them) the other facility being Kamagowa SeaWorld which ch as we know has a connection with Chimelong.

Updates:

Dora's calf has been named 'Pangdoubao'.

Jade's calf (yet to be named) was born last October. Loki, who was initially believed to be the offspring of Jade, is in fact the offspring of Nukka.

Sonya, Katenka and Nukka are all apparently pregnant. Katenka just gave birth five months ago, so is once again looking at a similar gap of around 22 or so months as with her previous two calves.

God that poor whale. It can't be healthy.

One quick pregnancy is an accident, two is intentional. Four is the whale equivalent of puppy mill breeding. I'm legitimately angry.

Where are they even gonna put them?. They're already full.

I imagine the plan probably is to sell them to other Chinese parks that are looking to hold them (like Wuxi), and I would be surprised if Japan wasn't interested as well. Japan would love a few males, especially following the roadblock that has been placed with the French transfer.

I've seen several people online say that the killer whale skeleton on display at Kobe is Bingo.

It's not. It's a historical whaling specimen from the 1950's and has been on exhibit at the aquarium ever since. It used to hang from the ceiling but during the renovation it was re-articulated and is now a standing model. There used to be a page about it on Kobe's old website.
