Global Captive Orca Population

Yes, that would be the case with Morgan and her calf likely on display there.

Loro Parque planned an underwater viewing apart of their proposed expansion of the current complex five or so years back, however it's since been shelved due to their being no real need to expand the current facilities. Hopefully once the Antibes pair arrive, and breeding kicks back off, this will be considered again!

Did they release any details of the planned expansion or maps? Presumably it would be in the farmland to the east of the current tanks?

I don't recall any specific plans/designs being released but after a quick search found this article detailing more about the planned expansion;

The company has purchased plots of land around the park, planning to relocate the aquarium which is currently next to the orca tanks, using that space to expand ‘Orca Ocean’. Plans may also include a tunnel, although whether this will be for the public to walk through to view the orcas or be used to move the whales between tanks is currently unclear.

Wow, an orca tunnel would be very cool.
Agreed, from my understanding, it would've likely been a tunnel that would've allowed guests to walk 'through' the orca pool via an underwater tunnel, similar to ones zoos and aquariums have implemented world wide (albeit on a smaller scale).

It would be incredible and very intriguing to see it done on a much larger scale; especially with orcas.

My "ideal orca tank" has always been the typical aquarium for bull sharks that you can find in almost every aquarium worldwide that has a tunel for the guest to walk-through but of course in a much bigger scale adapted for orca size... Would be so cool if Loro Parque could do something like that but anyways even something less fancy would still be a good improvement as their current tanks are a bit small in my opinion.

Loro Parque is asking for name recommendations for the calf

I'm a little disappointed they're naming the calf so soon before confirming the father. It would be nice, if Keto sired the little one, to have a name that bears a nod to him in some small way. It could be a long wait but it would be worth it for me.

It's so wonderful to finally have a fully mother-raised calf at LP. By this point Ula had already been separated due to insufficient milk production so hopefully that issue won't repeat again in this case

Loro Parque did a poll on Instagram for naming the calf, but they deleted it quite quickly after.

Not the best options - but I do agree Kai is the best, especially as it serves as a nice tribute to the calves supposed late father, Keto, and the 'K' line he descends from (Kalina, Katina ect).

Nakoa is also a nice name, however it's quite similar to 'Tekoa'.

After reading a translated version of the article, it seems that whatever Spanish authority in charge of approving the transfer is claiming that LP does not have enough space to accommodate the orcas (and 12 dolphins). Seems like a BS answer to me. There’s not anywhere else for the animals to go and all the employees’ contracts are set to expire mid-April.

“This authority concluded that ‘the facilities do not meet the minimum requirements in terms of surface, volume and depth to house specimens like these in optimal conditions’. ‘So following this opinion, we cannot issue the authorization to transfer the animals to Spain,’ continued the same source.”

Yes, let's just ignore that they have had 7 orcas in Orca Ocean before

With only four orcas currently (including the newest calf) there's absolutely ruling Loro Parque's facility inadequate for two additional whales. And I have no idea why the dolphins are even relevant in this case, it's not like they're being displayed in the same space as the orcas.

Loro Parque have three large pools. Six orcas gives them two per pool which shouldn't be an issue - orcas are not a solitary species.
