Actually, I just checked ISIS and it mentions 1.1 Francois Langurs at the LA Zoo.

I checked ISIS twice and they only listed 0.1 Francois' Langur for Los Angeles on both visits. Well, it looks like at least we're getting somewhere with the exhibit. But my GLAZA source mentioned only one speciman at the zoo as of yesterday. I'll check ISIS again for what it's worth.

And a little side note. I was at the zoo today, 98 degrees, and still no Royal Antelopes. At least no removal yet of the Red-flanked Duiker sign where they're suppose to be replacing them.

I see ISIS lists L.A. as having two different subspecies of Francois'. One male, one female. Then let's get that exhibit glass replaced and get this show on the road. On my lonely trip through the zoo today, there were probably no more than a couple hundred of us braving the weather and air quality conditions. With the large fire in our nearby Angeles National Forest, I can imagine all schools must have postponed any field trips to the zoo today, when normally we would have been swamped with kids.

I was going to tell you, but you beat me with this post.

Yeah, I only went to the first Francois' listing on ISIS. You just don't know how strong the urge I had at the zoo today, to get inside that empty exhibit and look around. It's been sitting idle for far to long now. Every visit, as I pass by it, is like a taunt.

Yeah, every time I'm there I just stop and look at the exhibit. Although I'm happy that the exhibit will open soon, I just wish we were still getting Golden Monkeys.

In western zoos we only maintain the regular Francois leaf monkeys. The other subspecies are only kept in Vietnam or P.R. of China (white-headeds).

I never knew Francois langurs were thought to be that rare. Over the last 4 years I've been to most of the zoos in Ohio. I'm fairly sure Ive seen them in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and even Toledo. I was under the impression that they were somewhat well represented.

To be found in only some 14 U.S. zoos, I'd call that pretty under represented wouldn't you? Ohio zoos are the exception to the rule.

Realtively underrepresented, I suppose. Not compared to Doucs or Snub-nosed, though. Perhaps they bounce around the Ohio institutions and I've just been at the right places at the right times.

Anyone know how many US zoos have silvered leaf langurs? I've seen them at Bronx and Columbus. I think SD keeps them too?

Bronx, Columbus, and San Diego have breeding groups.
Bronx and Columbus have bachelor groups.
Santa Ana, Omaha, Lowry Park, and Denver also have between 1 and 4 animals.
There are 29.28 Silvery Langurs in the US.

It was my understanding that due to the extreme difficulty of keeping them in captivity, there was a restriction on sending them to zoos for the time being. The exception has been Singapore Zoo, the only place they have seemingly thrived in captivity. With Jakarta and Schmutzer having the only other captive specimans; both Indonesian zoos. I wouldn't expect to see them anywhere else anytime soon, although there are always improvements in zoo husbandry over time.

Silvery Langurs or Silvered Leaf Langurs? Because according to ISIS there are currently no Javan Silvered Leaf Langurs in any US zoos.

Silvery Langur and Silvered Leaf Langur are both common names for Trachypithecus Cristatus. You are correct, there are not any Javan Silvered Leaf Langurs (Trachypithecus Auratus) in captivity in the US.

This website for Proboscis Monkeys gives a little more background on the difficulty of keeping them, and leaf monkeys in general in captivity. I am neither pro nor con the exhibition of leaf-eater monkeys, realizing the need to better improve our husbandry of rare and endangered species. Especially with the rapid loss of so much of their native habitat. Zoos may be the only resort for many of them.

Dutch monkeys

Blackduiker in the article it states that toronto is importing 10 monkeys do you know if that is on hold or if it is going to happen soon. Thanks

The article is 10 years old so I don't think Toronto is importing them any time soon - this was also before the Bronx sent theirs back to Singapore (?).
