I know you can't say what's the best zoo out there because there all good in there ways. Ive been to Erie zoo,Ogelbay good zoo,Akron zoo,National Smithsonian zoo,Cleveland zoo,Cincinnati zoo,Columbus zoo,The Wilds and my home town Pittsburgh zoo. I enjoyed 1 thing bout every single one of them but at the same time most of the animals i saw on exhibit werent really placed in a natural looking exhibit. My question is this summer i was planning on doing 5 zoos. The Detroit zoo,Maryland zoo,Buffalo zoo,Toledo zoo and Philadelphia zoo. Are these 5 zoos ive selected good or bad zoos? mainly for exhibit wise. And are there any other zoos out there in the u.s. that you recommend. thks

Buffalo Zoo: Rainforest Falls, Otter Creek, and Sea Lion Cove. The rest are average or desperately need updating.

Maryland Zoo: Solid African section of the zoo, good polar bear exhibit more for visitors that the polar bears (tundra buggy), and a scenic walk for Maryland Wilderness.

Philadelphia Zoo: Big Cat Falls, McNeil Aviary, Reptile House, and Bear Kingdom. Most of the exhibits are decent and a reason to go this zoo is to see the variety and rarity of animals.

Of the five new ones you plan to visit, the two I have seen are Maryland Zoo and Philadelphia Zoo. But Maryland is so close to the National Zoo, why would you not do it also? And Philadelphia is only 100 miles (I think) from the Bronx Zoo - one of the best around - why would you not do it also? (Or for that matter, go to New York for a week and do all five zoos).

As for Maryland and Philadelphia, both decent zoos (not outstanding, but decent). I like Philly better because I am a cat fanatic and could spend all day at Big Cat Falls, but I think Maryland has a nicer savanna exhibit if you like antelope and rhinos.

Completely agree with Arizona Docent you should explore all possible ways of including the Bronx Zoo.Its in our opinion hands down the best in the country. As far as a couple other ideas we think the Louisville zoo is underated besides its African Savannah the rest of the zoo is pretty solid.Chicago would be another spot spot to consider with 3 zoos in one major city and its very easy to get around.Amonst the zoos you have already mentioned you are planning to visit I would say only Detroit is worthy of being considered a great zoo.

@Arizona docent: I paln on going back to the smithsonian national zoo in 2013 when the new elephant exhibit is complete and to see the new and remodeled seal and sea lion exhibit and north american section. Also crossing my fingers but tian tian and mei xiang might have a baby panda by then. so things are looking up for that zoo.

@Team Tapir: Thks for your suggestions. Im really considering doing the Bronx zoo this summer. It seems like a popular zoo and a great one too from what im reading on here from everyone. But Im definately doing Detroit zoo just for The Arctic Ring of Life exhibit. I love Polar Bears.

@blospz: Thks for the reviews on the Buffalo zoo,Maryland Zoo and Philadelphia zoo. It sounds like Philly zoo is a good zoo.
