:D Did anyone see the Gorillas today? They were so funny especially Kumbuka and Kivu.
Firstly Kumbuka he started by looking at the water and realizing there was something different about it .like it wasnt moving.!So on closer inspection and nearly toppling in he started to prod poke and taste the ice he was fascinated .I managed to go around to the viewing area to get closer and take some pictures .He procceded to start to see what this strange cold thing was on the water he prodded it and poked it and a piece broke so he threw it and he was perplexed when the ice bounced and didnt sink.He then put his hands on the ice and pushed down and the noise from the pressure of his body sounded like a bird.He tried a few more times and broke of some large pieces of ice and couldnt quite understand what it was and threw it of course it crashed across the frozen ice .
Then Kivu appeared after climbing the tree.He walked around the river bank and was intrigued by the frozen water. he broke of some large pieces of the ice sucked them dropped them and clapped his hands and stuck out his tounge.,shook his hands with cold and did that all again before running of.
So has anybody got a spare pair of skates I feel a new programme coming to the Beeb ':cool:Gorillas on Ice'

Ha bet that was fascinating to watch.
I would have thought they would have been kept in though, just incase they tried walking on the ice and then escaping or drowning.

I think the ice might hold under the weight of the small ones but Kumbuka is a different one he has been trying to fathom out a way of getting over and joining the humans,by breaking the electric fence on numerous occasions .and paddling in the water. He has sussed that the water is not too deep.We have often didcussed that if he did get over we walk him to reception and say Kumbuka seems to be lost.

It was fascinating watching them explore their strange new surroundings. It shows how thick their skin and coats are that they willingly went outside when most of the animals had decided to stay inside. I don't envy keepers on days like today - especially the one trying to break the ice around the orangutan island. Brrrr!

Isn't that another good reason for keeping the Orangutans indoors though?;)

Touche! (That looks wrong without an accent but I don't know how to attach one). At least they were going to be given a choice about it! I believe one orang ventured out the other day and shot back indoors again.

Both Demo and Gambira are in the lower cage area and can go outside to the smaller island Demo man was out exploring today. No doubt Gambira was inside making his hot chocolate:rolleyes:

Chinta and Mali were in the show cage,
It seems to be a good set up as there seems to be no fighting:D
