Which zoo in the UK has the best or most succesful collections of great apes in the uk for me

Gorillas - Howletts /Port lympe
chimpanzee twycross/Monkey world
orang utan monkey world
Gibbons Monkey world / twycross
bonobos Twycross

agree disagree any thoughts

I wouldn't consider Twycross to be successful chimp-wise as they have never had a large functioning community. I'd say Chester Zoo has done much better with chimpanzees in terms of both exhibit and group structure. Chester is excellent with regard to orangutans as they have both species living in fantastic exhibits.

I think Chester chimps are a great example of a multi-generational group that's been allowed (as much as possible) to sort out its own hierarchy etc.

I like both Monkeyworld and Chesters orang exhibits too

Gorillas & Bonobo are not even up for debate in terms of breeding, though Bristol must take some credit for the early Gorilla breedings ! These are fairly pointless arguing.

Chimpanzees, could be several places, anywhere other than Twycross! Chester, Edinburgh, Monkeyworld....

Orangutan - early days London? Now Chester or Monkeyworld probably!

Gibbons - Howletts /Port Lympne

I think successful needs defining though!
