Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History Great Plains Zoo News

It really irks me when media outlets say false things like this just to grab a reader's attention. Snow monkeys aren't endangered; hence, no reason to include that in the title. If a black rhino was born, they could say "Endangered Rhino Born at _ Zoo". Fine. But don't lie to people by implying that breeding snow monkeys in zoos is somehow saving their species.

Japanese macaque M. fuscata are listed as Least Concern (Source: IUCN Red List). Indeed, not considered to be endangered, but as an conservation education / exhibit animal they are fine though for a northern clime zoo.

Yes, I agree. To clarify, I have no quarrel with zoos keeping or breeding snow monkeys; it's just the misleading journalism I take issue with.

According to a sign posted near the Zoo's Pallas' Cat exhibit, the Zoo will soon be receiving new Pallas' Cats, as the Zoo hasn't had any Cats on exhibit for about a year.

I have uploaded 75 new photos of this South Dakota attraction, including many images of the new Japanese Macaque exhibit (2013) and Fortress of the Bears (Grizzly Bears, 2018) as both are excellent additions to this mid-sized zoo.

A new Galapagos Tortoise winter-viewing/holding area opened in the former Creepy Crawlers building. The Zoo's three Galapagos Tortoises can be viewed during in this area throughout the winter during operating hours

Two Vietnamese Pot-bellied Pigs went on exhibit recently at the Great Plains Zoo. "Buddy" and "Maggie" now hold residence in the barn of the Hy-Vee Face-to-Face Farm, and are able to be viewed during the Zoo's current open-hours.
