Greater Vancouver Zoo Greater Vancouver Zoo News

3 year old female Amur Tiger, Hani, died overnight from unknown causes. Since they are unsure of the cause they are concerned about sister Hana.

Her untimely demise is unforutnate for the Amur breeding program. At 3 she was just coming to an age where they could have used her for breeding and she and Hana are from Seoul so their genetics are high value to the program. At least they still have Hana.

Their facebook page said reindeer. Im not sure but I think the Canadian Zoos usually have European Reindeer and not Caribou, which is a shame because Woodland Caribou are animals at risk in most if not all of the provinces they naturally inhabit.

Seconded.

We have the same issue here … domesticated reindeer over the endangered forest reindeer from Northern boreal Europe (ssp. fennicus). That also … is a shame.
