Greensboro Science Center Greensboro Science Center: News & Expansion Updates

The center had a new Komodo Dragon!
His name is Hannibal and he is a three year old dragon from the Denver Zoo! He's much smaller than Drogo (the previous dragon) coming in at just 12.5 pounds!
Hannibal is still getting used to the habitat so he won't be on exhibit for a while.

- The Servals have been put together
- Southern Ground Hornbill "Hermione" has been introduced to the main Okapi exhibit (not with Bakari currently, but hopefully soon!)
- Koi fish have been added to the Caribbean Flamingo exhibit

Couple updates:

  • New fencing is being put up from the Tiger exhibit all the way down to the Gibbons.
  • Because of this, the Gibbons are not currently on exhibit.
  • Alexander the Peacock has moved to a different home.
  • Unfortunately Alpaca Winston has passed away
  • Komodo Dragon Drogo is not currently on exhibit as his habitat is currently being worked on to help him not do things he's not supposed to do.
  • There are some new decorations on the viewing areas for the Gibbons, Lemurs, and Fossa.

- Most of the downstairs (Aquatic Discovery and the Herpatarium) will be closed starting Monday as construction will be starting. Hopefully this will be the start of the master plan for this area.
- There is a Cassowary egg on exhibit but the chances of it being viable are very low as this is Moana's first egg.

- The iconic taxidermy setup on the lower level has been removed. This space will be used as a small traveling exhibit area. Next month, as space themed exhibit will open.
- Cassowary Moana has laid a total of 5 eggs. 3 were broken by either Dodo or Moana and the other 2 were turned into dummy eggs.
- An update on the other renovations on the lower level: The renovations are making space for the current Discovery House residents since it will be torn down when the Biodome is built.
- Alpine Goats Wednesday and Sable have moved to another facility.
