A couple of updates from my visit today
  • The spider monkey exhibit was closed with the indoor exhibits windows papered over.
  • A volunteer told me they now have a male amur leopard behind the scenes- although they have to wait for the red panda exhibit to reopen before they introduce their leopards for breeding.
  • While not open yet - the construction walls around the red panda exhibit have been taken down. It looked like the red panda exhibit is now slightly smaller - I would not be surprised if they plan to give the red pandas access to the old Eurasian eagle owl exhibit as well.
  • The harris hawk is back on exhibit - though still no ocelots on exhibit.

The mulch was put down on the 21st. Miles loves the mulch. He stands on it ruminating for hours.
I’ve seen Autumn outside at night sleeping a couple of times.

On May 9th, it was announced that the zoo transferred 6 Chilean flamingos to Zoo Atlanta in Georgia, as well as acquired 2+ flamingos from Zoo Atlanta in a swap.

On August 13th, the zoo reopened the Himalayan red panda exhibit to the public after it was closed for renovations.

The renovation had taken longer than expected due to construction-related issues involving the shelters not being waterproofed properly, something that was eventually fixed.

Among other news, a new female ocelot is now on exhibit alongside the male.
 
Funding has been approved for the farmyard renovation.

Planned species are Flemish giant rabbits, miniature highland cattle, miniature donkeys, alpacas, turkeys and a barn owl, as well as the zoo's current pigs and goats. The zoo's current owl that is located adjacent to the farmyard is a barred owl, but seeing as it already has a relatively newer exhibit I can only assume they do indeed mean a barn owl will also be joining the zoo.

Can't pretend it's an exciting expansion for me personally, but the farmyard so desperately needed a renovation that I'm still thrilled to see this moving forward.
 
In light of the farm announcement, one of the zoo's two remaining pygmy goats died, leaving only one individual, who may be about to leave. The only logical thing left to do before the farm construction can begin is to move the zoo's Kunekune pigs.
 
Some missing signage confirms that the zoo's helmeted curassow has died. In addition, as I covered under the species list, a Mexican spider monkey has joined the Colombian spider monkeys, only now, it finally has signage confirming its presence, and the two species alternate between outdoor and indoor spaces.
 
A Facebook message response from the Zoo indicated that the Giraffe Cams will likely return around mid-December 2025. They have been down since the construction started on the Farm addition due to utilities being affected throughout the Zoo by the construction.
