Greetings Everyone!
I’m happy to have found this forum. My name is Anna and I use they/them pronouns.
I am a big animal and nature lover and very interested in wildlife and nature conservation. I grew up in an urban area of NJ, so a lot of my early animal highlights are memories from the Johnson Park Animal Haven (which recently closed) and the Bronx Zoo. My interest in nature expanded once I moved out of NJ when I went to college in Maine and had more regular access to camping and hiking.
Since then I’ve had an insatiable itch to be as in nature as much as possible, and my current living place in the Catskills has been providing a lot of great local wildlife inspiration.
I haven’t lived near a proper zoo in a while so my focus has been mainly on animals I can see where I live (a great opportunity to practice my tracking skills) and whatever I can learn online. I also enjoy playing zoo tycoon games and most recently started Prehistoric Kingdom.
I am a visual artist by trade, and I’ve been recently shifting to making more animal and nature art and designs. I’ll post my links down below for reference. (Admins, please let me know if I need to remove any of these as I'm trying to follow the intro guidelines.)
I’d love to draw educational books and coloring books eventually, and I am also slowly chipping away at a passion project of making a wildlife focused adventure video game.
It's hard to pick a favorite animal! I’m really fascinated by the interconnectedness of all beings to the natural world and how they all work together.
Some of my long term favorites are reptiles and amphibians (my Dad's side in from Peru and I remember being able to touch an adult Anaconda as a kid when visiting), Whale Sharks, large birds (especially raptors and scavengers), and big cats.
In my local spottings, I’m really excited when I see a Red-Spotted Newt, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, a new nesting pair of Bald Eagles, Red Foxes, and our more regular visitors of Grey Catbirds, wild Turkeys, Black Bears, and White-Tailed Deer.
I’ve yet to see a fisher, but I’d really love to spot one locally.
I’m looking forward to being part of the community!
