Evening all - joined a day or so ago.

Go by the name of Wenxue (an old Chinese word for a scribe). Bought annual membership to London Zoo a week or so ago as after nearly 900 photos the ducks in St James's Park are probably getting fed up with me. Live in London and take a lot of photographs. Find taking photographs of buildings very dull and so seek out animals wherever I can (as random people tend to object to being photographed). London is not though teeming with zebra wandering the streets (I keep wishing) and so I mostly have to seek out captive collections to get my fix.

Getting fed up with the endless grey, rainy weather here. Hoping it will be better when I go to see my other half in Liverpool at the start of June. Planning a day out at Chester Zoo then (where my grandparents used to take me as a kid many many moons ago).

I am finding the gallery here very useful. It always good to see photos others have got at the same locations I have been. Helpful for making me think about what I might like to try and get photos of on the next visit.

Aww.. the foxes on your garden are beautiful!!

(It´s not the same one every time, is it?)

Do you leave out some food for them or do they come to hunt the squirrels? :-)
 
I think we have two regular foxes. They are not at all tame and will run off if they see me through the window. I never leave food out for them as they have caused a few problems. Got in through a neighbour's catflap and caused quite a bit of damage. They do chase the squirrels but I've never seen them get close to catching one. They tend to eat stuff out of people's compost heaps and rubbish bags.
 
Love the St James' Park photos. Your Pintail drake is pure; they sometimes have that greeny bit behind the eye, as do European Wigeon; Gadwall often have a bit of plum color in the same place. Could the hybrid grey goose be Whitefront x Barhead? Is one of those Pelicans full-winged, or just not very well pinioned? Welcome to Zoochat; it's nice here.
 
Your speckled bird at London Zoo is a hen Amethyst Starling, the unidentified duck at the Wetland Centre is a female Ringed Teal
 
Thanks so much for the ID's FB Bird! I'm not sure about the pelicans. The only info I get on them is from the old folks who are usually in the park. There is no official source of info at all. There is one American White Pelican who is 37 years old (I'm not kidding on that) and a pair of Great White Pelicans (aged 14). There was another Great White Pelican known as Willy but that one (who turned out to be female) died last year. She was the one who used to walk around the park and perform for the cameras and stuff. She also used to like to walk with the guards sometimes when they were marching along The Mall.
