Haiti perhaps? I know DR has trogon as it's national bird, not so sure about Haiti and can't think of an exw species from there although.

I’ll guess Tanzania. Only two countries have the Grey Crowned Crane as the national bird, and it does not have a lot of endemic species, one of which being Kihansi Spray Toads.

Upon reflection, I've just realised I may have bent the rules of the game slightly...
 
With that hint, I’m guessing it’s not actually a country because I don’t see any other way you could’ve bent the rules.

I know guam kingfishers are EXW, so Guam?
 
Well the only other place that I could find looking off a national bird list on wikipedia was el salvador and Nicaragua (both with different species of motmots), and I don't think el sal has anything exw and Nicaragua I believe is biodiverse, so assume it's some small territory, to which I guess maybe
Bermuda?
(Browsing red list and also remembering you've done some conservation work there) Also is it an animal or just any species?

Eswatini? together with Angola the only country to have a turaco as its national bird and Mozambique and South Africa are almost certainly more diverse. No idea what the extinct endemic is tho

He didn't specify the EW species was an animal though. Encephalartos relictus is EW and was endemic to Eswatini.

I don't think that any of the animal EW species match with the other country descriptions, so @J I N X probably got it.
 
2 subspecies each of a big cat and a canid intergrade in this country. It forms the western-most limit of the distribution of a species of ungulate and the eastern-most limit of another species of ungulate. It is one of two countries where a critically endangered species of non-passerine bird occurs.

This country is one of two nations with endemic gaviallidae, has it's own endemic varanus subgenus (which split off around 20 mya) as well as being the home of a semi-recently described giant rodent.

Indonesia? Although I'm confused with the gavialidae clue, I don't think either gavialidae species are endemic to a single country.
