I'm not super sure what section this belongs in ,but I figure photography would be the closest.

So ,who thinks they can guess which species this egg belongs to ?? (Hint ,very few ,if any other people would have an egg from this species)

Shape is wrong for any crane or for Takahae, but right for Kagu, pattern of which appears to be variable. Can we have a clue about size of egg please? If it's actually a tiny thing like a Cisticola or a Flufftail that's been made to look big, I give up.

I'm puzzled by the clue, "very few ,if any other people would have an egg from this species" which suggests that this may be the only egg in existence.

Yeah, I am going to go with the April Fool's Day joke of "painted chicken egg". It also fits the clue that there are no others in existence.

penguin eggs are white

Not all of them, I mean not every species of penguins has white eggs (am I mistaken?).
My first thought was Antarctic Continent is the most inaccessible Earth zone for humans for now.

Maybe it is an egg of extinct species? Anyway, size needed.

I'm pretty sure all penguin eggs are white (although in the natural state they are often soiled).

My initial thought when the thread started was great auk but it doesn't look enough like one (plus there are "lots" of great auk eggs around).

Heh ,sorry guys ,I kind of forgot about this post.

None of the above ,however the closest guess would have to be the Kagu (in terms of location)

Heres a picture of the egg in my hand. Also not painted ,this is 100% natural ;)

in that case I'd have to say a bird of paradise, possibly one of the riflebirds.

probably a raggiana then, although I'm pretty sure more than one person in the world has an egg from this species.....

Yup ,Raggiana.

Also I might have been over embellishing slightly ,but I'm sure not that many people own eggs of the species (let alone new eggs. This one is from a bird I work with. Only a couple of years old now)

still pretty cool to be able to say you have a bird of paradise egg.

Indeed. I have it packed away in a very thick layer of foam in a sealed container to keep the shell strong and bright :P

Very "waxy" ,shiny eggs come to think of it...
