Guess the movie

He took all the photos himself
I did actually. My other job is publicity photographer for movie companies....er, I started when I was but a boy....

1) Braindead (zooboy28) [that's the Sumatran rat-monkey]
2) ?
3) ?
4) The Piano (Pygathrix)
5) Once Were Warriors (Pygathrix) -- have you seen this Pygathrix? If not, I highly recommend it (I know that may not mean much now after the last time you took my advise, but it really is very good)

The theme was indeed the very easily-guessed one of filmed in New Zealand, so nanoboy gets two points, equalling him with Pygathrix. A secondary theme might be that the NZ directors of them all went on to make big Hollywood movies (well, minor Hollywood movies in Jane Campion's case). Probably a third and fourth theme might be that each movie had actors from Shortland Street in it, and actors that appeared in Lord Of The Rings.

So no more lectures to Moebelle about copyrighted animal pics, ok? :D
you wouldn't be deliberately misrepresenting the blatant difference between the use of photos in the two threads would you nanoboy? This thread explicity exists only through the use of publicity shots released by movie production companies, which may be used by others within various guidelines (all the photos I have used are legitimate publicity shots). The Guess The Animal thread, on the other hand, is not about trawling through Google Images and stealing photos from other people's sites and blogs. There have been issues on here before about members uploading photos that do not belong to them (such as Moebelle and CinciZooMan or whatever they were called that week). That was the whole point around restricting the Guess The Animal thread to your own photos.

@ Chlidonias: yes I have seen Once Were Warriors, excellent if grim film. I recognized it because I don't know any other Maori films.

Shortland Street and Lord of the Rings would hardly count as themes as just about every NZ actor has been in both.

2 looks like Michael J Fox, put him into Google with New Zealand and top of the list is The Frighteners, which I have to admit I've never heard of. No idea about 3, looks like some sort of dragon slaying epic.

Man, you are so easy to goad. :D
I would have enjoyed being your classmate in high school. :D

there's a sequel to Once Were Warriors called What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted? which is also worth watching although nowhere near as good as the first movie.

Number 2 is indeed The Frighteners by Peter Jackson

Number 3 is still unguessed. (Hint one: epic dragon-slayers don't usually carry binoculars. Hint two: the director was going to do Alien 3 and there were jokes in NZ about how the Alien was going to be wearing a balaclava)

and Vigil it is. Apparently Vincent Ward's "Alien 3" would have been one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever but instead it was directed by someone else and, well, wasn't.

Pygathrix wins.

There is a connection between these films/tv series, and also one of them links back to Chlidonias' last set.

I took all these pictures myself, as I mix with movie stars and such frequently.:p

I am so terrible at these. I only know one again and it's the most obvious one. I think number 1 is Atonement.

#1 is Pride and Prejudice - I studied the novel for English A-Level, has to be the single worst book ever written, and I can categorically say that I detest Jane Austen and will be happy if I never have to read any of her novels again.

Now, our other set texts were a different matter - Hamlet, Heart of Darkness, the Comforts of Maddness, She Stoops to Conquer and Rape of the Lock.

You don't like stories of repressed posh people trying to find a suitable match? Sadly Jane Austen died 11 years before London Zoo opened and 18 years before Bristol Zoo opened, I'm pretty sure she would have been interested in both had she been born a little later :)

The link is an actor common to all 5, but only shown in picture 4, which is a rather obscure (but most excellent) film from NZ.

1 Pride and Prejudice (Javan Rhino)
2 Death at a Funeral (Desert Rhino) - now that's a very funny film although I've heard the American remake is laughter-free
3 Hint - baggy-eyed president
4
5 Spooks (Zoogiraffe)

Correct! Now you are just two google searches and thirty seconds from the finishing line...

This seems to have died, so the answers are:

1 Pride and Prejudice
2 Death at a Funeral
3 Frost/Nixon
4 In My Father's Den
5 Spooks

The link is English actor Matthew Macfadyen who is in all of them.

Winner is Javan Rhino with 2.
