Wait. From 49 pages ago? And I thought Thylacine was too lazy to read! :D

I read the beginning of this thread, same with the original Guess the Species. Mostly because you kept recomending Guess the ____ games to me on several different threads but still.;)

@Chlidonias- Hahaha

~Thylo:cool:

I guess I'll go, then...

Just a couple of birds here.

First is a Grey Winged Trumpeter.

Second looks to be some for of partridge or quail-esque type bird.

Grey-winged trumpeter is correct. You're on the right track with "partridge or quail-esque type bird".

Gritty Reboot

alright, this thread has sat idle long enough. Let's see if it can be revived once more.

Five photos. Usual rules*.

Now I'm going to sleep.

*the rules for those without photographic memories are on post #143:
1) one to five photos are allowed per round
2) photos must belong to the poster because that was the whole point of the game when it started
3) pets are allowed but the poster must state that one or more of the photos is/are of a domestic animal (and specific breed is not required for the answer)
4) the poster determines how specific an answer is required for wild animals
4a) an individual animal's name is not required!!
5) NO edits are allowed to answers once posted. If you want to make a new guess then make a new post!
6) the winner is determined by the poster, usually the person who gets most correct but alternatively whomever gets the last correct answer or who posts all correct answers in one post
7) the poster's decision for winner is final
8) the winner can relinquish his or her turn to whomever he/she desires
8a) players who can't or don't want to post photos can pass on their turn to another member, or leave an open invitation to post photos
9) new rules can be introduced through the running of the game to the agreement of players
10) old rules can be jettisoned to the agreement of the players

Afraid you will want to have less indicative filenames!

As such I "guess" you have posted....

1) Kentish Plover
2) Some variety of Sturgeon
3) Musk Duck
4) Brazilian Merganser
5) Indian Ringnecked Parakeet

Were it not for the filenames, I would have got the plover, musk duck and parakeet; I'd have guessed basking shark for the sturgeon and a shearwater for the merganser.

Your turn again, in the name of fairness :p

I think Chlidonias is somewhat cleverer than that, and that you may have fallen into his trap!

I bet the species listed are ones he would dearly like to see but hasn't yet (except the ringneck and maybe the musk duck)

My guesses are:
1. NZ Dotteral?
2. Common Dolphin
3. Little Pied Shag (or some other shag with yellow-beak?)
4. Flesh-footed Shearwater
5. Antipodes Island Parakeet (I'm most sure of this one, certainly at Auckland Zoo based on background)

True, on second glance that is indeed a shag or cormorant; I hadn't bothered to enlarge the images. But I would have still guessed Kentish Plover and Ringnecked Parakeet without the misdirection.

My guess that 2 and 4 are a basking shark and shearwater respectively stand, then. Haven't a clue what kind of shearwater though, as I don't know the group very well.

Nr 5 is an Cyanoramphus unicolor. 100% sure about that one. And Chlidonias wishes that Nr 4 is a Brazilian merganser. Wrong habitat for that species and the chance of making a picture of that species is very slim :p.

correct on all counts. Well done. That didn't take as long as I expected!
