1. Horseshoe Crab
2. Spanish Ibex
3. Fish :D
4. Sahara Sand Viper
5. Long-eared Owl

ARGH. I'm so slow...

1, I should've known. Way too obvious.
2. I was looking at goat-antelopes' horns, skipped ibexes because I thought they didn't spiral that much. I was looking at markhors, bharals, etc, then gave up and moved to antelope horns...
3. ??? Not a clue.
4. Eyelash viper was my best guess. :p
5. Oh! That's the rim around the eye! I thought it was a curve in the neck, which made me think it was a heron/bittern/egret of some sort! :D

jeez I go away for five days and the thread not only progresses eleven pages and 161 posts but we almost lose Ituri! I think its time to recap some rules. They are all common-sense but that's obviously lacking in some people. Does everybody agree with the following?

1) one to five photos are allowed per round
2) photos must belong to the poster because that was the whole point of the game when it started
3) pets are allowed but the poster must state that one or more of the photos is/are of a domestic animal (and specific breed is not required for the answer)
4) the poster determines how specific an answer is required for wild animals
4a) an individual animal's name is not required!!
5) NO edits are allowed to answers once posted. If you want to make a new guess then make a new post!
6) the winner is determined by the poster, usually the person who gets most correct but alternatively whomever gets the last correct answer or who posts all correct answers in one post
7) the poster's decision for winner is final
8) the winner can relinquish his or her turn to whomever he/she desires
8a) players who can't or don't want to post photos can pass on their turn to another member, or leave an open invitation to post photos
9) new rules can be introduced through the running of the game to the agreement of players
10) old rules can be jettisoned to the agreement of the players

Does all that sound fair enough?

Agreed....

Where's an ichthyologist when you need one, eh?

oh right, its one of the filefish I think but I haven't had time to look properly yet

(or a leatherjacket or snipefish...something along those lines, they all have similar body shapes)

1. Atlantic horseshoe crab
2. Spanish Ibex
3. Boarfish
4. Sahara sand viper
5. Sri Lankan Wood Owl

OK, get your guessing-gear round these five beauties...

You know, the thing that is so challenging when Maguari goes, is the sheer depth and breadth of zoo animal photos the man has at his disposal. It is staggering!

All have now been guessed correctly - after a (careful!) count-up the results are:

1 - American/Atlantic Horseshoe Crab (Limulus polyphemus) - Barcelona Aquarium - Ituri (I wasn't expecting more than 'horseshoe crab' as the answer)
2 - Spanish Ibex (Capra pyrenaica hispanica) - Madrid Zoo - Ituri
3 - Boarfish (Capros aper) - Berlin Zoo Aquarium - Moebelle
4 - Saharan Sand Viper (Cerastes vipera) - Prague Zoo - Ituri
5 - Long-eared Owl (Asio otus otus) - Prague Zoo - Ituri

All over by the first post really, with only Ituri's fish knowledge letting the side down! (and I changed that one at the last minute before posting - I have a feeling it would have been a one-post round if I hadn't!)

So next round is up to Ituri! :)

Sorry, meant to attach the full photos:

Didn't stop you getting 4 out of 5 at the first attempt though! :D

I must try harder next time!
