Guess the species #6

I cannot confirm or deny that at this stage, I can just say that there are still three correct guesses, plus one correct location!
 
so I will now guess at:

1) Eurasian eagle owl
2) Northern spiny-tailed gecko
3) still absolutely no idea and yet it looks like something I'm going to kick myself over not knowing!
4) Collared lory (at San Diego)
5) Mule deer

After having a bit of a look around, I changed my mind for number five and Chlidonias looks to have got number three right.
 
OK, there are now four correct guesses (+ one location) and one that's stumping everyone so far...
 
Every single guess made matches all of the animals but number 3. Jerboa is the best guess but my Australian native coworker says it's a Bilby. So here's my guesses.
1. Eurasian Eagle Owl
2. Spiny-tailed Gecko
3. Greater Bilby
4. Collared Lory
5. Chamois

But all other animals match exactly what's shown in the photo. Unless one is actually a Great Horned Owl, but the feather pattern doesn't match.

No they don't. You should be able to figure out the correct guesses from what I've posted, and then look at the remaining photo a bit more.
 
I'm just throwing this out there because I'm all out of guesses, the animal on the right looks like a chamois, but the animals on the right look like dogs. Dingos and Dholes certainly don't have that coloration, however, the wild dog has a white tip on its tail. Again though the setting does not look African.

But well done on getting that species - how did you figure it out?
 
I was sitting there looking at it and looking at it and looking at it. It obviously wasn't a marsupial (just because I'm familiar with how marsupials look) but I knew I recognised the general look of it. The head looked rodenty as well. It appeared to have long hind legs and a long tail. I tried springhaas but the tail wasn't right at all. So I stared at it some more, and then tried google-imaging jerboas. I found a picture of a lesser Egyptian jerboa which looked similar, then I checked the jerboas on Zootierliste and the only one which matched and was found in Europe was the greater Egyptian jerboa so that's what I went with (I just assumed it was photographed on you European trip rather than the North American one).

I figured #5 was in North America but I'm still trying to think about that one some more, assuming mule deer was incorrect.
 
oh, and I chose Plzen for jerboa because that is my first thought for any small rodent!
 
Well done. I did see htem at Plzen, but that wasn't where this photo was taken. It was one of the other two places listed on Zootierliste as holding this species that I have been too.

Definitely not Mule Deer, the only place I saw wild Mule Deer was in the Black Rhino enclosure at the San Diego Wild Animal Park :eek:
 
I think number five is the sticky one, but I'm stuck. They have the shape of pronghorn but not the colour. Bighorn was my best guess I think.

I shall try pronghorn.
