Gulf Breeze Zoo Gulf Breeze Zoo

Can anyone shed any light on their "off exhibit breeding center"? It is referenced in this article about their pygmy hippo program.

*Edit, looking at google maps, I would guess this may be it. There is a building and off exhibit enclosure with pond visible.

The zoo announced on social media today that they are now home to two 4 year old cheetah brothers, Big Mak and Safi, who moved there from Virginia Safari Park.

Where did you get the names from? I'm not seeing them on social media, just that they're 4 year old brothers, and I have no record of VA having cats with those names.

They were in their original Instagram post, but I just looked now and see it's been edited and the names have been removed.

In checking the most recent 2020 Studbook available on the Cheetah Conservation Fund website, there are brothers named Safi and Big Mike born on 4/11/19. As of that Studbook they were located at Fossil Rim. I'm guessing/speculating those are the 2 and the original Instagram post from Gulf Breeze Zoo got one of the names wrong.

Thanks! Wonder why they removed the names, that's really odd. I had been assuming they were born at VA, they haven't really been bringing in or sending out cats, but I guess those two slipped in at some point.

On April 3rd, 2024, the zoo announced that (0.0.5+?) emus hatched. The zoo also announced that (0.0.2) eastern bongos, a (0.0.1) giant anteater, a (0.0.1) red kangaroo, a (0.0.1) ring-tailed lemur, and a (0.0.1) Thompson's gazelle were all born.
