Some updates according to their website:

-Later this month they are to receive a pair of pygmy marmosets, the male from Adelaide and the female from Perth.
-Two eastern barred bandicoots are soon to go on display in the nocturnal house.
-Fundraising for the giraffe/zebra exhibit has started and is progressing well.

Halls Gap is getting some good publicity recently with a segment on Postcards and this piece in Pieces of Victoria:

Pieces of Victoria, Media Bulletin - Tourism Victoria

I'm not sure if this is the bit from Postcards but its clearly from some Aussie travel show: YouTube - ‪Halls Gap Zoo - Making Tracks | http://www.hallsgapzoo.com.au‬‏

Very cool clip, showing a few of the animals, the grounds, and one of the owners of Halls Gap Zoo. And the bit with the bison at the end is hilarious!

We had the pleasure of visiting this zoo over the weekend, and we were really impressed.

I'll not rehash the list of species, as CGSwans et al have done a comprehensive job earlier.

What I will say is that it was 3 hours well spent, and we easily could have spent more feeding the free ranging animals and taking pics. The zoo is very well laid out, the animals have excellent enclosures, and this zoo is definitely on an upward trajectory, especially with the plans to bring in new species (like giraffes and zebras) in the near future.

We did the meerkat encounter ($25pp) and the chameleon encounter ($20pp now but we paid $10pp as Yvonne was nice enough to honour the erroneous price on their website (that has since been rectified) at the time of my booking). I liked the fact that they emailed me their professional pics of the encounters for no extra cost.

At a cool 3.5 hours drive from Melbourne, it is unfortunate that I cannot visit more often as the hands-on approach is more appealing to me than any of the three Zoos Victoria. But, we will definitely be back later in the year, and in the mean time I highly recommend a visit for anyone who will be/is in Victoria.

Has anybody visited recently? I would love to hear how the giraffe/zebra plans are coming along?

We have a family reunion in Halls Gap in April, so I'll finally get to visit Halls Gap Zoo - I've been quite impressed with what I've seen on their website and other sources so far, so I'm looking forward to the visit.

Yeah, you'll enjoy it. Don't forget to book ahead for some animal encounters. :D

I went to the zoo yesterday, and they're full steam ahead for the giraffe enclosure - it's looking fantastic.

Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of it! (What WAS I thinking?!?), but the main viewing area is next to the bird enclosures - up the end where the Bush Stone Curlews are, and opposite the Cassowaries. They have a pool fence, then a garden, and a moat, then the enclosure. And there's a big green shed for them to sleep in. :)

They're not due to arrive from Monarto until the end of next month, and Yvonne has assured me that they will update all their FB fans when they have finally arrived. :D

Giraffe #2 still has to be trained, but it was raining lots in Adelaide, so has been put off until nicer weather.

We went there once just after the first giraffe Sumari arrived, but it was POURING with rain, so we didn't even take any pics of him. We left not long after we got there.
