WOW!
Does anyone know where they have come from? Presumably a private collection?
I'm only speculating here but they may have come from Tod Dalton as that is where I believe the most recent three individuals came from which are held at a German collection.
Now that is ace! I’d love to see these beauties. I’ve seen one once in Kuwait Zoo about 15 years ago in a pretty horrible cage, but I’d love to see some in a vegetated/spacious enclosure. I’ve gotta get to Hamerton now - guess I’ll see all of the zoochat nerds there too!WOW!![]()
For the moment, they appear to be in the non vegetated, not particularly spacious area the binturong had been using recently though.I’d love to see some in a vegetated/spacious enclosure.

The former I believe!I assume they are having the dingo space when the dingos move to the area between the tigers and bears or they are having that space. So that’ll be a nice space if that’s the case.
The former I believe!
More information about the brown hyaenas - they have indeed come from a zoo in South Africa, and consist of a breeding pair and their female offspring. Another male, intended as a mate for the young female, has already been sourced and will arrive later in the autumn.
Information comes from the news article on the Hamerton website:
Hamerton Zoo Park - Animal Park Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
Will they keep both pairs for breeding or will one pair be moved to another collection? Seems strange to keep two pairs when another UK collection could potentially keep them
From what I understand reading the website, one pair in the old Dingo enclosure, another pair near the Bears.
It does from a disease transmission point of view, but at the same time, Hamerton have obviously worked so hard to make it happen, they’d need a solid reciprocal arrangement. Paigntons current Maned Wolf enclosure is a good fit (wishful thinking), but Exmoor would be a good fit too. Regardless, I wish Hamerton all the luck in the world in caring and hopefully breeding them.My apologies, I meant do they plan to keep both pairs in the long run or do we think one pair would be moved elsewhere?
Seen as the three are related just seems odd to keep to keep both pairs if one pair could live in another UK collection
