Well that depends on which story you believe personnaly I will believe the owner of Hamerton and not what EAZA,has said as other people have backed the story rgat ge told me!!I see from the latest edition of Zooquaria - number 84 - that Hamerton's membership of EAZA has been terminated .
The fact that EAZA couldn't even get the collection's name right in the announcement that Hamerton is no longer a member says a lot, I think.
Are you able to say why it was terminated?
Well EAZA might say it was terminated,I would say that is a pile of steaming bull manure and that has been confirmed to me by atleast half a dozen people within the zoo world!Hamerton left EAZA of there own free will due to problems with people that thought they knew more about the animals at the place than the owner! Are you able to say why it was terminated?
I wouldn't hold your breath! After all that build up for white tigers, it's probably something even less exciting : an a s c otter, a r-t lemur or coati maybe! After a bit of teasing in dribs and drabs, the first bit of confirmation:
A pair of white tigers named Mohan and Shiva- not the most unique of names, of courseboth originate from Serengeti Park in Germany.
The thing that piques my curiosity, however, is that before the vet-based delay there was a prior delay due to something they had not expected to be coming so soon becoming available at short notice - which raises two questions:
1) Has this second mystery import also arrived?
2) Will we be kept in the dark for now about the second thing?
Of course, I'm entirely happy if there is still a surprise to come when the time is right to announce it - gives us something to look forward to.
Hi everybody! I would just like to make it clear that the new white Bengal tigers will not be on direct view for a few weeks until they have passed quarantine.
Their new paddock will be on the right hand-side of the tiger tunnel, with viewing through the windows in the tunnel to begin with. Once new public access has been completed you will be able to walk along-side their paddock and look through viewing windows into our brand new, purpose built tiger house. They will not be mixing with Lady-belle and Blizzard.
Mohan and Shiva were born in Germany at Serengeti Park on 2nd October 2012. Shiva (female) is smaller than Mohan (male), and they still have lots of growing to do yet!
The new house has actually been built with enough space to accommodate 4 tigers, and once another paddock has been built we will be welcoming another very special pair of tigers.
I wasn't knocking Hamerton for getting the white tigers and take your point that they make good business sense and will certainly pull in extra visitors. They are at least fairly rare in the UK now (Hamerton being the only zoo i visit regularly that have one since Colchester's died). I just thought the build up was a bit over the top, but if it has brought the zoo publicity , so be it.Listen the arrival of the last White Tiger added over 5,000 visitors a year to the zoo visitor numbers,so if the arrival of these 2 adds just half of that number of visitors that will bring in more money so that other more interesting things can arrive!Lets just say if half the species I have heard the place is interested in bring in arrive there will be more than enough reasons for a zoonerd like myself to visit the place,if as a result of this means that I have too put up with looking at a pair of White Tigers that helpped the zoo to be able to afford to bring in things that I do want to look at then for once I can put up with seeing them!

I wont mind seeing the white tigers along with hopefully the tayra, rusty spotted cats and any new species they bring in when i visit again in a month or two and beyond.
I just wonder why they went for white tigers? Are they looking to breed them? Are they castrated ?Sharing the same birthdate they are evidently a brother and sister pair, so no doubt some sort of contraception will be used on them. I can see their logic in obtaining them, I just wish they wouldn't refer to them as 'Bengal'.
