Sounds like the old tiger enclosure. Which means the caracal may have moved.
 
Its good to see Dingo back in the UK. Fraser Island is indeed famous( or perhaps infamous as they can be a perceived threat to tourists apparently- there are warning signs everywhere) for its 'pure' strain of Dingoes. If they want to set up a new strain in Europe a few more unrelateds may need to be sourced in future though. But its a positive start.

What is the status of the New Guinea singing dog as a form separate from the dingo? The IUCN page for the dingo mentions that their range covers Australia, New Guinea and Southeast Asia as far north as China and as far west as India, with the only 'pure' dingoes remaining in Australia and Thailand.

Just wondering because if the New Guinea singing dog is seen as part of the dingo 'subspecies', then they've been at Exmoor Zoo for a long time, and I believe are now at Gentleshaw as well?

If one recognises Dingo as a distinct species, the New Guinea Singing Dog is generally classified as a separate subspecies to the Australian form.
 
I popped in today. The Caracal are still there (I really hope they are not in there long term) and the Dingo have a new hut next to the Tayra, with a small outdoor area that will give them access to the old tiger enclosure.
Nice to see the little Hyrax have some outdoor space now, next to the Javan Binturong near the entrance.

I think the enclosure for the caracals is totally adequate for the animals, just ugly and rubbish for the visitors.
That seems like a massive space for dingoes though. And an improvement for the hyrax. Did you see if the hopping mice were on show? I’m hoping to visit next week.
 
Another new species at Hamerton - a male ringtail arrived last week from Pueblo Zoo in Colorado with a female due to come over in the summer from Zoo America in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The male is currently in the off-show isolation unit.

The ringtails will eventually feature in a new exhibit being built next year but it is hoped the two animals will be moved on-show during the autumn.

What's the likelihood that this new exhibit next year will be the long under construction nocturnal house I wonder?

Hopping mice are on the right in the reptile house, I saw them last Mon morning. I'll post a photo of them in the morning. I saw 5.
 
Two burrowing owl chicks (the first at Hamerton for a few years) have hatched with their parents in the central aviary block. A second marabou stork chick has also hatched over the past couple of weeks:

The website has also announced the birth of four Canada lynx cubs. They are currently confined to the holding area behind their house; they will be allowed into the main enclosure once they have had their vaccinations and been sexed:

The zoo have announced the arrival of a male ringtail (currently offshow until the new enclosure is built) on their Facebook page. The male arrived from a zoo in Colorado & there are plans for a female to join him later this year.
