2.0 in fact. That area will get some overhaul under the Masterplan 2025 too with the emphasis on addax, dorcas gazelle and Somali wild ass and the North African ostrich.

The major investment this year is the ground breaking for Afi Mountain themed mandrill and meerkat exhibit to replace the Wader Aviary and Gibbon area.

The second project to start soon is the African bird aviary.

This after opening of the new African farm area. At last things are moving again ..

Second Elephant born - Califa gave birth to a female calf at 00.04 this morning. Both mothers and calves are doing fine so far
 
I've seen the footage. It doesn''t look good. I think zoos shouldn't door elephant shows. They're zoos not the circus.

Everytime something like this comes to light it automaticly makes all zoos suspect. At leest the way PETA does it. Ik must make a compliment to german media who didn't sensesonalize it. Gave Hannover a chance to explain (which they skrewed up) and had third parties (two other zoo directors and an american elephant expert) take a look at it. They alle said medical training is nessicary, but this kind of circus training has no place in modern zookeeping.
 
The only way to keep elephants in direct contact is to make them subject to humans. This can only be achieved by breaking them owns will. This is achieved by physical and psychic violence. All zoos-that is not only Hannover- keeping elephants in direct contact and breed, begin to"coach" the calves very early, completely independent of whether the respective zoo has a show or not. Whether this exercise of fviolence against elephant calves or elephants in general is advocated, is left to everyone. In any case, this form of elephant welfare led in the past to not a few, unfortunately also deadly accidents.

Hannover Zoo stopped his circus-style elephant show a few years ago and, fortuantely, protected contact is planned for the near future.

By they way, never judge things just after seeing a"video"-they proof absolutly nothing, especially if they come from peta.

It is frightening how simple people are to be influenced and maintened nowadays......
