Is it true that there is only one female caribou at Hannover now?
That is according to ZTL anyways ...

That is true, they are down to a single young female. Hannover would like to keep this subspecies, but for now there is a distinct lack of interest from other zoos, so they are planning to switch to European forest reindeer, which seems a sensible move...
 
On Sunday I visited the beautiful Zoo Hannover, wow I was really impressed. Especially Yukon Bay was simply outstanding, best theming I’ve ever seen in a zoo!
Some news:
- Enclosure for Roan antelops and Dikdiks seemed to be empty (both are in another enclosure as well though).
- Somali wild ass and Addax seemed to swap indoors/outdoors, do they not go on well together?
- The old tropical house was closed and emptied. Outdoors there were still ring tailed lemurs, ruffed lemurs and drills. Here will be a new Madagascar area later on. The red pandas also in this area will move to the Asian area, their new enclosure there is almost finished.
- Focus is on that Asian area now, as the elephant enclosure expansion is going on. Next to this will also be a new enclosure for the hanuman langurs together with orang-utans and gibbons. New animals in this area will also be otters, binturngs, bali mynas, edwards pheasant and lion-tailed macaques.
- Next to the sloths and science house a new building called ‘Amphibium’ will open in 1,5 week. It will include some frogs and newts including titicaca water frog and fire salamander.
- Next to this house a new enclosure is currently build for the sloths, who will be housed together with Aldabra giant tortoises.
 
When I was in Hannover in 2022, I did see the wild asses and addaxes together. The tropical house was already closed.'

Good to read the langurs are getting a new enclosure Their current one is very themed, but not really suited for the monkeys.

I agree Yukon Bay is the best area of the zoo.

I have got a week off next week due to overtime last month. I am thinking i might be visiting next week. Due to a change in the railway schedule. It is possible to do this a (long) daytrip.

When wil the asian area including the new elephant house be completed next year or 2026 ? If it's next year i might postpone the trip a year as it is still quitte expansive
