I had a great day....at Chester Zoo, watched the keepers crate up and move 'Nila' the Sumartran Tiger Cub as she headed out to her new home in 'La Pal' zoo in France. I've never seen an animal crate up and transport before - well not a large and bitey animal anyway - was interesting to watch and discuss the logistics and see the amount of paperwork that was required to transport a really rare species across borders. It was a little emotional too as Kirana the mother was pacing back and forth and calling to the cub through the bars - natural but it must be a bit confusing for her knowing that she's gone now!? It was interesting too that the transport was quite low key - i.e. I expected huge stickers saying things like 'Dangerous Animals in Transit' or 'Tiger - please do not tailgate me' :O) there was a little sticker saying 'Live Animal Transport' in english and german - that was it.
Anyway - it was a nice birthday - especially on the back of my 'mahoosive' birthday breakfast at the local American Diner - I really needed the walk around the zoo to exercise off the pancakes :O)
