Happy christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!

I concur, it's been a great decade for zoos. I'm happy to be a part of wildlife conservation and education even if it's only a small part like answering a woman's question about the difference between lions and tigers and counting with a child the 8 legs on a tarantula. I'm happy this board exists, to share my passion for zoos with a larger community!

Thank you!

Yes, happy Christmas to all. It seems here in the U.S. more and more zoos are opening up for special evening Christmas light displays during December. (Except of course in the U.S. you can't call it a Christmas display anymore, you have to say "winter" or "holiday" display, which is absurd IMO).

I am just wondering if zoos in other parts of the world do this (I mean have light displays, not the part about what they call it)?

Merry christmas to you all and to all a good night

Lets look forward to a happy and zootastic* year

*'zootastic' being the most tackiest word I could find....sounds like an advert.

it's not that absurd, the United States is a pluralist society where church and state are separate and there are plenty people who won't be celebrating Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone :D

Have a good one!

Thank you Sim for creating such a great website for any zoo entusiast to post or display their views on the natural world.

Looking forward to 2010!

My adult daughter has taken to saying "Happy ChristmaHannaKwanza and all that jazz" this time of the year--she works for the US Postal service. So, what she said to all of you! A special thanks and good wishes to Sim for this site. always something new to read and learn!

I too believe the Noughties were a good ten years for Zoos...

This decade, in Britain alone we have had many big events happen, including: the WHOLE country's attention focused on ONE individual animal (the transfer of Mercedes the Polar Bear from Edinburgh Zoo to Highland Wildlife Park), we have had more exciting news from the RZSS team in their publicising a plan of acquiring a breeding pair of Giant Pandas, a few Zoological collections opening their doors for the first time (inc. Amazona Zoo and Sea Life: Alton Towers), here in East Anglia (the largest English region) the birth of ONE animal has been pasted ALL over the news (Colchester's young Pygmy Hippopotamus), Dr Tropeano of Colchester Zoo fame being presented with a "prestigious" award from BIAZA for his work for helping wildlife and (aswell as many others) a number of the larger Zoos publicly releasing often extensive future plans including Chester's "Natural Vision" and Edinburgh's "Masterplan".

So here is to another simply fantastic decade for Zoological Collections world wide (except Noah's Ark Zoo Farm XD) *cheers*

Merry Christmas everyone and have a brilliant New Year!

Ciaran.
