Has there ever been a European badger in American zoos?

European badgers are well known and loved in Europe.

In North America, Frances the badger (apparently based on a European badger) is a beloved character in children's literature.

Has any American zoo ever had a European badger on exhibit?

The European Badger is more iconic in North America than the American Badger is. Even here is Wisconsin, where badger imagery is everywhere, it's almost always European Badgers, even when places should know better. At least the UW-Madison has it right.

Not North America, but Melbourne Zoo here in Australia had European badgers for many years. I remember seeing them as a teenager in the early 1970's and they had them right up to the mid-late 2000's

Per USDA about eight months ago they had two of each Badger at that point. The Eurasian post is from 2020 so they appear to have lost one since then.
Where did you hear that? A recent post from
Oct 2023 still mentions three of these

Yes, so unreal. They also have a fossa which is pretty unusual for a Non-AZA place to have

They seem to no longer have the fossa either, but yes, it is an unusual species outside of USDA. Not unheard of, I know of a few places, but not common either.
