Have you ever visited a zoo for a specific species?

Not yet, but I do plan to visit a zoo primarily for mainland clouded leopards sometime in the near future Still not 100% set on the zoo in question, but I'm leaning towards Houston. Not that their exhibit for that species is particularly strong, but because it would give me the chance to visit Galapagos, The Pantanal, and Texas Wetlands, which all look like outstanding exhibits.

Lotherton - For the Capybara and Tapir
Askham Bryan - For the Armadillo
Yorkshire Wildlife Park - Tigers, Elland, Lechwe, Capybara and Polar Bear
Blackpool - Gorilla

I visited Hemsley for its Aardwolf and Shaldon for its Owston's Civets. Amahoro the Eastern Gorilla had a big part to play in my choosing Antwerp over Planckendael, but I suspect that I would have ended up visiting Antwerp regardless of her presence, to be honest.

Naples Zoo - I went specifically to see the Honey Badgers, White-Headed Lemur, and Buff-Cheeked Gibbon

St. Augustine Alligator Farm - I was mainly making the trip for the Black Caiman, Mugger Crocodile, and Freshwater Crocodile though I also wanted to see all of the other species too.

Jacksonville Zoo - I mainly wanted to see the Red-Necked Ostrich and Blue-Eyed Black Lemur(sadly didn't see the lemur)

Zoo Atlanta - the Giant Pandas and Drills were my main goal with the Western Plantain-Eater, Bontebok, and Black Beaded Lizards being secondary goals

Georgia Aquarium - I mainly wanted to see the Tiger Shark, Whale Shark, Oceanic and Reef Manta Rays, Southern Sea Otters, Great Hammerhead Shark, and alcids though I also wanted to see everything else too, but those species were my main draws.

Zoo Granby for their Himalayan black bear(Asiatic bear) and Japanese Serows
Toronto Zoo for their Mila the amur tiger, the Komodo dragon,

Yes, I went to Duisburg to see Baby the Amazon River Dolphin in December 2019, glad I did. I would love to go to Krefeld to see the Mountain anoa or Wilhelma to see the Quokkas.

To be honest, the entire Australia house at Wilhelma makes it worth the revisit :) but the Quokkas are a definite plus.

I visited the Lincoln Park Zoo two days in a row because I didn't see the African Wild Dogs on the first day.

I’ve got a few:
  • Darling Downs Zoo to see Sri Lankan Leopards. They also had Caracals, which I didn’t realise prior to my visit and one gave me a good fright when I was walking past the enclosure, assuming it was a Serval enclosure only to hear it hiss at me
  • Sea World Gold Coast for Polar Bears
  • Adelaide Zoo for the Giant Pandas
  • Taronga Western Plains Zoo for King Cheetahs
  • Taronga Sydney for the Fishing Cat. I’d visited before but had never been able to spot her, so planned a trip specifically with the plan to spend the day at her exhibit to see her, given she’s an elderly cat and the only one on display in Australia
I also have trips planned this year to the Wild Cat Conservation Centre for Clouded Leopards, and Singapore Zoo/Night Safari for African Leopards, Malayan Tigers and Asiatic Lions.

I've already visited around five big zoos this year. While I do enjoy seeing any animals in a proper care and photographed any taxas that are new for me, I can't deny that I visited some of these zoos for specific animals that couldn't be found elsewhere in captivity in where I live.

I went to Bandung Zoo for their moor macaque and Malayan porcupine, though I missed the latter which have been put off-display. Taman Safari Bogor have nyala, common impala, several native primates (Including Kloss's gibbon and Siberut macaque), striped hyena (Missed it), a couple of lemurs, smooth-coated otter, giant panda, red pandas, mishmi takin, and some others that I'm keen to see. Ragunan of course have their gorillas, but I'm went to see their endemic primates, several native small mammals like Sunda pangolin, native birds like maleo, and specific animals like the Sri Lankan leopard.

I went to Central Park Zoo just to see Polar Bears, and also went to Smithsonian Zoo just to see their giant pandas and black-footed ferrets. I also went to London zoo just to see their asiatic lions

I’m thinking of going to Capron park zoo to see their Amur leopards (closest to me) and historically, I’ve gone to see their sloth bears, dourocouli, loris, and Visayan warty pig. I mainly go to stone zoo to see their bush dogs, Mexican grey wolf, cats, and Markhor

I have done this at least four times: Georgia Aquarium for whale sharks, National Aquarium for Irwin's turtle, National Zoo for giant pandas (and more specifically to see them before they returned to China), and Milwaukee County Zoo for Laysan teal and scimitar-horned oryx

I went to Taronga Zoo mainly to see a platypus, Birmingham Sea Life Centre to see a scalloped hammerhead shark, Chester Zoo to see a tuatara and Tropical Wings Zoo to see a marbled polecat

I visited the Jamaica Swamp Safari primarily to see the Jamaican hutia, but upon arrival, the staff informed me that the hutias had passed away some time ago. This was contrary to what I had been told over the phone, where I was assured that the zoo still had them.

I also visited the Shell Factory to see the Derby's woolly opossum, only to be told that it had passed away a long time ago.

My wife has a fascination with the two toed sloth. She loves going to zoos and aquariums and when they have a sloth and it is active it is a nice bonus.
